Tug of war champions

-

Well done to the ladies from our local Ballinastoe Tug of War Club, who teamed up with Kiltevna TOWC from Galway, who represented Ireland at Breaffy House Hotel, Castlebar, Co. Mayo recently and became British and Irish Champions for Ireland in the 500kg and 540kg categories.

The power, dedication and will of these women that came together and achieved outstanding results was certainly a memory never to be forgotten in Tug of War history.

The determination from B and K ladies was indeed spectacular proving that teamwork was a major contribution in making history for their country.

The event itself was well run with ladies’ teams from Scotland, Richill, Northern Ireland and St Pat’s Tug of War Club Co. Louth, who were also representing Ireland on the day, but it was the B& K ladies who claimed gold for Ireland with St Pat’s (Ireland A) taking silver on the day. The B& K ladies also represented their club on the Sunday and won a silver medal in the 500kg and also gold in the 540kg categories.

The comradery among the teams in Castlebar over the weekend was admirable. Competing teams of professional standard and the true sportsmanship amid them makes the sport even more enjoyable for all concerned.

Congratulations to all the ladies including our own Cathy O’Toole and Jenny Barker, coaches and everyone involved in the preparation for such a fantastic weekend.
