‘Friends’ to re-open Kilmacurragh
February, 1995
A COMMITTEE of botanical experts and garden lovers has been formed to offer advice on the preservation and management of the interna- tionally renowned arboretum at Kilmacurragh House.
Neighbours of Kilmacurragh have been awarded honorary membership of the ‘Friends of Kilmacurragh’ committee, which entitles them to visit the gardens with their families free of charge. However, it is hoped to offer other interested people from outside the area social membership at an annual charge.
The money raised in this way, along with gate entry charges, is to be used to offset the substantial cost associated with the upkeep of the gardens.
The first chairman of the Friends of Kilmacurragh is Prof Matthew Harmey of UCD.
It is hoped to reopen the gardens in time for people to see the rhododendrons in full bloom.
