Claims that lights only allow 6.5 seconds to cross

A MUCH-USED set of pedestrian traffic lights in Bray only allows six and a half seconds to cross, it was claimed this week.

Criticism of the timing of the lights situated opposite the Tesco shopping centre has come from a resident of Charnwood whose son was involved in an accident at the crossing.

Young Jonathan Donnelly suffered a broken leg and a fractured pelvis in the accident which happened when he was returning from school on Monday of last week.

Mr Donnelly said this week that since the accident he has studied the pedestrian crossing closely several times, and discovered that there is only six and a half seconds for a pedestrian to cross before the lights turn against him.

He also pointed out that instead of changing to flashing amber, the lights went straight to amber. Mr Donnelly said he had checked the crossing himself following the accident and studied it on ten different occasions.

On two of these occasions, he had observed cars driving through the red lights, and he expressed his concern over this.
