WICKLOW MURDER TRIAL BEGINS

-

A WICKLOW man will go on trial today charged with the murder of Anne Shortall.

Roy Webster of Ashbree, Ashford, is accused of Ms Shortall’s murder on April 3, 2015, at The Murrough.

On Monday, 39-year-old Mr Webster pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to the manslaughter of Anne Shortall. However, this plea was not accepted by the State and so his trial will get under way today ( Wednesday, March 8).

Having sworn a jury of five women and seven men at the Central Criminal Court on Monday, Justice Patrick McCarthy said the trial is likely to take two weeks.

Anne Shortall went missing on April 3, 2015, which was Good Friday. The following Tuesday, a body was located. It was later confirmed to be that of Anne Shortall.
