Wexford Wanderers pay visit to Ashtown Lane

-

WICKLOW RFC’S minis were in action on Saturday with their rescheduled blitz against Wexford Wanderers RFC.

The blitz took place in bright sunny conditions in Ashtown Lane with the minis taking on their counterparts from under 7s to 11s. The U12s played on Sunday in a three way tie with Greystones.

The weather enforced break meant the boys and girls were eager to get playing and they took every opportunity to spin the ball wide and make use of the space on offer.

The underfoot conditions were heavy but the players adapted and played some fine rugby.

The games were all played in great spirits and the teams retired to the clubhouse for some well earned refreshments afterwards.

Meanwhile, Wicklow’s Under 10 girls had an exciting outing to a girls’ blitz hosted by Suttonians on Sunday.

There was a huge turnout from clubs across Leinster and the girls tested themselves against Barnhall, Seapoint, Terenure and Suttonians. It was their first outing in months and though a strong breeze made handling a little tricky at times, the day lent itself to fast flowing rugby.

The Under 10s girls’ panel has continued to grow with new players joining almost every other week.

Their training through the bad weather paid off with the girls defending ruthlessly, conceding only four tries over the four matches played. They also attacked relentlessly, frequently breaking down the defenses with combinations of strength, speed and support play. They finished the day on a high, emulating the Wicklow Women’s team who just last week won the League Final after an undefeated season.

Afterwards, they all retired to the Suttonian’s clubhouse to refuel.

Next week it’s training as usual on Saturday.

The minis will be marching in the St Patrick’s Day parade on Friday, meeting at Whitegates at 1500. This year the Minis will be joined by the Ladies, Under 15 and Under 18s teams.
