Glencormac take spoils

GLENCORMAC United dented Arklow Celtic’s Pat O’Toole Division 2 title hopes, seeing off their opponents 2-1 on Sunday.

Mark Doyle got on the scoresheet for Arklow Celtic but it was Glencormac who took the spoils. WICKLOW Town produced a five-star display to overpower Seaview Wanderers at Bridgewate­r Centre Park on Friday.

Ian Brannigan fired the visitors in front with a free-kick but David Kavanagh replied with a dead ball goal of his own to draw Seaview level ten minutes before the break.

Rory Dowling edged Town back in front shortly before the interval and they took control in the second-half with Gareth Murphy scoring twice and Johnny Carton also getting in on the act as they ran out 5-1 winners.

Newtown United had to dig deep to come away with three points as they edged out Rialto FC 3-2. Ryan Cahill, Dillon Carthy and Dessie Waters got the goals for the Magpies. WICKLOW Town hit Ashford Rovers for six on Saturday in their Premier Youth Shield match.

Patrick Murphy, Matthew Traynor, Reese Kelly, Jack Gero and Jordan Sinnott (two) scored for Town, with Conor Curran replying for Rovers.

Elsewhere, Arklow Town also hit the back of the net six times as they emphatical­ly saw off Rathnew (see focus match).
