Vandalism at Avoca baffles local gardaí

March 2005

-

GARDAÍ at Avoca are baffled by a number vandalism attacks carried out on the Garda station there in the last three months.

Investigations are continuing to try find the culprits and a motive for the smashing of eight windows in the station in two separate incidents.

Six windows in the station were broken at the weekend and afterwards the gardaí found rocks in the office.

Two windows in the Community Hall nearby were also broken on the same night.

A garda source said that they had no information on the incidents but suspect it ‘could be local enough’.

Gardaí from Arklow and Wicklow responded to a call from a member of the public but by the time they arrived the culprits had long departed the scene.

At the moment, garda strength in Avoca is down one member, from three to two, and if they had the third garda it would allow them give the village more cover.

Three months ago two other windows in the Garda Station were broken, together with the lantern and Garda sign on the front of the building.
