FIGHTING WORDS

On Tuesday last our class got a chance to go a creative writing workshop, we went up on a bus and it lasted about two hours. The workshop was really fun, the people running it were all very helpful and friendly.

We wrote the first half of our story as a group, which was interesting, and then had the opportunity to either continue the story by ourselves or write a completely different one. Some of the continuations people came up with were hilarious, and a couple people wrote some very good stories of their own. Everyone in our class really enjoyed it and had a great time. ANTI-BULLYING WORKSHOP

First Years enjoyed their anti-bullying workshop, facilitated by the ‘Sticks and Stones’ company last week. Follow up work will continue over the next few weeks to reinforce students’ good habits in how they relate to each other.

CSPE TRIP

On Wednesday, March 8, Form 3E to visit the Irish Aid Centre in Dublin. Irish Aid is a government organisation that helps people and villages with poverty and hunger in developing countries.

Some examples of the countries that Irish Aid helps are Malawi, Tanzania and Mozambique in South Africa. We learnt about a certain girl and her family from Malawi. We also learnt that 0.36% of the governments money goes towards Irish Aids work. The trip to Irish Aid was for our Junior Cert CSPE action project. It was a great trip, enjoyed by all. BEFORE SCHOOL SPORTS

A big thank you to Ms. Hudson, who has been organising before school sports activities for First year students. These activities (including badminton and table tennis) have proven to be very popular.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Our first and second year boys basketball teams have been training hard for their upcoming Regional quarter final matches. The first year team are due to play St Tiernan’s CS and the second year team are due to play Kishoge C.S.

CROSS COUNTRY

Best of luck to Dara Owens, Hannah Blake and Ailbhe Flynn competing in the all-Ireland’s XC Final in the senior girls’ race for East Glendalough School in Mallusk, Co. Antrim on Saturday. A very strong, experienced team to be representing the school.

Especially well done to Dara as she is the youngest on the team but still competing at senior level.

TRANSITION YEAR NEWS

This week has seen our TY’s embark on their last set of optional mods.

Bake off has made a welcome return with some very interesting scones on offer, bacon and chocolate being one of the more unusual combinations.

Elsewhere a small group of palaeontologists are flexing their cerebellums looking at the fossil record, while another group tackle some of the classics from Greek and Roman mythology.

To balance these heady highs of academia we also have softball start back up and horticulture coming into full spring.
