History society
Tuesday, March 7, last was a sensational night for the members of Kilmacanogue History Society, when over 250 people packed into the large conference room of the Glenview Hotel.
The guest speaker on the night was the Earl of Meath, Jack Brabazon, who was in conversation with local historian and storyteller Phillip Byrne. This new format worked perfectly on the night where the Earl and the storyteller chatted together in a relaxed atmosphere.
Lord Meath gave a most interesting account of his family origins in Belgium followed by the history of his 14 predecessors. These accounts included many interesting and humorous anecdotes as well as a history of Kilruddery House and Gardens. Lord Meath was very generous with his time and answered many questions from the large audience.
The society wants to say a special thanks to Phillip Byrne, who conducted the proceedings in a professional and relaxed manner. The next talk takes place on Tuesday, April 4, at 8 p.m. in the Glenview Hotel.
The guest speaker on the night will be Charles Egan and the title of his talk is the Famine Roads. Charles is the author of two acclaimed novels on the Great Irish Famine, with a third in the series due to be published later this year. Everyone is welcome to this very interesting talk, especially new members.
