St Gerard’s School
HOCKEY
LEINSTER SENIOR HOCKEY FINAL – St Gerard’s School one vs. Muckross College 2: to reach the Leinster Senior Hockey Finals. It is a fabulous achievement on so many levels for St Gerard’s and was a tremendous and enthralling fixture.
It has been a remarkable Cup journey and the colour, panache and vibrancy we brought to the occasion represented a truly unique experience for everyone there with our supporters bringing a carnival atmosphere to the occasion. We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Muckross College on winning the final and we wish them every success in the all-Ireland Tournament.
We also congratulate our Senior II’s on reaching the Leinster Senior League Premier Final for the first time following their win against Mount Anville last week. It was a scoreless draw at full time and the game went to penalties where we were eventual winners. We very much look forward to the final on Thursday the 16th in Three Rock Rovers against Wesley College.
Finally in hockey congratulations to our Minor B hockey team who beat Loreto Beaufort in a thrilling match last Saturday. The match was played at a very high pace and it was end to end excitement. The game finished level in normal time and St Gerard’s were outstanding on the penalty shoot outs. The Minor B’s now play St Joseph’s of Cluny in the semi-final.
FIRST YEAR RUGBY
Congratulations to both the first Year A& B Sevens squads in their very successful Oratory Sevens Tournament in the Oratory School, Reading, last weekend. The A Squad qualified out of their group with convincing wins over the Oratory, The Oratory Prep School and St John’s Beaumont, and went on to win the competition outright.
The B’s, with two wins out of three, meant they did not progress out of their group however qualified for the Plate Competition. Here they had great wins over Winterfold House, The Oratory Prep School and St Anthony’s. This saw them taking the Plate Trophy home.
TOUR TO LONDON/STRATFORD
The fifth Year English Department took to the skies and across the water to London recently on a four-day tour. The students visited the Natural History Museum, The Science Museum, The National Portrait Gallery and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
They also took in the sights of London and visited Covent Garden, Oxford Street, Regent Street and Camden Town. The highlights of the tour were seeing the West End production of ‘Jersey Boys’ and the Shakespearean production of ‘Snow in Midsummer’.
