Liam Ryan

Author Liam Ryan will pay a visit to Greystones Library on Saturday, April 1, where he will talk about his inspiratio­nal survival of head and neck cancer.

Liam has told his story in his book Cancer 4, Me 5 (after extra time).

He is one of the very few survivors of this form of cancer.

Anyone overcoming any form of personal adversity could benefit from hearing or reading about his experience.

History society

The Greystones Archaeolog­ical & Historical Society spring trip to Waterford will take place Holy Week, from April 10 to 13.

The trip will be to Park Hotel, Dungarvan, with visits to Cahir Castle, Lismore Gardens, Mount Congreve and more.

Children’s storytime

The popular children’s storytime has moved to the slightly later time of 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday mornings at Greystones Library.

The session is suitable for babies up to children aged six years. All are welcome to come along for some super stories as well as the chance to meet other parents and carers. No booking is required.

Cancer support

Greystones Cancer Support bereaved meeting will take place today, Wednesday, March 29, at 3.15 p.m.

This is a meeting for those bereaved in the past two or three years. The sessions are profession­ally facilitate­d by Liz Gleeson.

The cancer support men’s evening will take place at the La Touche Place Centre this evening at 8 p.m.

This meeting is for men who have or who have had cancer and for those men who have family or friends who have had cancer.

Aircoach changes

A new Greystones route 702 Air Coach timetable came into effect on January 1. Coach service from Dublin airport leaves terminal 1 at five minutes past the hour. Coach service to Dublin Airport leaves Charleslan­d either on the hour or ten past the hour, depending on time of day. For more informatio­n go to aircoach.ie.

Newcastle Market

The regular Saturday morning market takes place at Newcastle Community Centre.

The market will be on from 10.30 a.m. to 12 midday with fresh vegetables and produce available.

Holy Rosary social

Holy Rosary parish social, hobby and craft afternoon will and take place on the first Sunday of each month.

The event will take place at Kilian House Family Centre from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. each month.

Refreshmen­ts are available at €1.50. The event is for people aged 18 and older. For more informatio­n go to greystones­parish.ie.

Active retirement

Greystones Active Retirement will take a cruise for their 2017 summer holiday.

The trip will be for 11 days to France, Spain and Portugal.

Dementia Friends

Greystones Dementia Friends is a local group for those caring for someone with dementia.

The group meets every Friday morning in the Burnaby Lounge at 11 a.m. The group would love to welcome anyone caring for those with dementia.

Yoga classes in Newcastle

A new term in yoga and mindfulnes­s classes has started in Newcastle Le Cheile. Back care yoga is on from 7.45 p.m. to 8.45 p.m., €130 for 10 weeks, and Thursday, September1­5, 10.30 a.m. to midday, €170 for 12 weeks. The classes include yoga postures, mindful breathing, relaxation and medication practices and are suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. The cost is €16 to drop in for a class. Invitation to Men’s Shed

Greystones Men’s Shed is open at the first Wicklow Scout Hall on Church Road.

Yoga for kids

Yoga classes for children are available in Greystones.

Classes are on Tuesdays and for preschool pupils from 12.50 p.m. to 1.40 p.m.; for junior and senior infants from 1.50 p.m. to 2.40 p.m.; for first to sixth class from 3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. and secondary school students from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Jazz performanc­es

A new weekly jazz club is in residence at Theatre Lane in Greystones on Thursdays. Italian jazz guitarist Francesco Amico and vocalist Kerry Anderson play in the restaurant­s on Thursday nights from 7.30 p.m.

Brian Whelan

Brian Whelan & The Cyclones will perform a set of classic hits at the Hot Spot Music Club on Friday, April 7.

This unmissable night of music and song is being held in aid of Greystones Cancer Support.

The legends of the Irish showband era are sure to have everyone out of their seats and dancing their socks off throughout the night. The group was originally formed as far back as 1960.

The renowned Hot Spot Music Club is located above the Beach House at the Greystones Harbour Marina.

Soup and sandwiches

Soup and sandwiches will be served by the Holy Rosary team on Wednesday, March 29. The meal will be served at Kilian House family centre from 12.15 p.m. until 2 p.m. Meet your friends for delicious home-made fare. There will also be tea or coffee and cake after lunch.

A suggested donation of €5 will go to local charities. Everyone is most welcome for good food and a friendly chat.
