March 1995

-

The bank holiday weekend took a traumatic turn for an elderly Bray woman who had to be treated for a broken hip after she was targeted by a callous bag snatcher.

The crime victim sustained the painful injury after she was pushed to the ground by a lone attacker during an unsuccessful attempt to steal her handbag.

According to local gardai, the woman (who is in her 70s) was walking along Meath Road at around 4.35 p.m. last Saturday when she was approached by a young man aged between 18 and 20 years.

He attempted to snatch the bag, but a struggle developed as she attempted to hold on, during which she was pushed to the ground.

The robber gave up on his attempt when a passer by intervened by coming to the assistance of the elderly woman.

She was removed to hospital where she was treated for a broken hip and other injuries.
