GAELIC FOR GIRLS

Kilcoole GAA Club are running a Gaelic four Girls (G4G) program at Kilcoole GAA Club starting on Saturday, April 1, at 10.45 a.m. The program costs €10 and a G4G T-shirt will be provided to each player. Kilcoole GAA Club are the only club in Wicklow selected for the G4G program this year by LGFA. G4G is a 12-week programme incorporat­ing coaching sessions with fun non-competitiv­e blitzes aimed at increasing participat­ion in Ladies’ Gaelic Football. The programme targets girls aged between 8-12 years who are not currently registered with a Ladies’ Gaelic Football club.

PARENT/TODDLER GROUP

All are welcome to come along to the parent and toddler group at the Community Centre from 10.30 p.m. to midday every Wednesday. €2 per child.

SENIOR CITIZENS TRIP

The annual trip this year will be to Galway. Participan­ts will travel by coach on Monday, April 17, and return on Friday, April 21. The group will stay in Flannery’s Hotel, Galway. Day trips will incorporat­e visits to places such as Clifden and Kylemore Abbey and Gardens, ferry to Inishmore, half day scenic tour of South Galway and North Clare via Ballyvaugh­an and the Burren and other places of interest. Total Cost €330 (Sharing) and €410 (Single Room Occupancy).

If you wish to reserve a place please give your name and a non-refundable deposit of €30 to Veronica Byrne (086 3935471) or Tony Rennix (086 0747039) prior to March 1, with full payment no later than March 31.

EASTER EGG APPEAL

The annual Easter Egg charity day will be held on Saturday, April 8, from 12.00 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Mill Room.

Organiser Sylvia Scanlon wants to buy 60 easter eggs for patients at Newcastle Hospital with the balance of funds being split between the Open Door, Kilcoole Tidy Towns and Bray Lakers. There will 25 tables selling arts and crafts, homemade jewellery, cakes, chutneys, knitwear, bric-a-brac and lots more including an Angel Card Reader, Face Painter, Guess the weight of the box and Guess how many sweets in the jar.

There will also be tea, coffee and cakes as well as a draw with 100 prizes – first prize is a weekend away from Trident Holiday Homes, second prize is a flying lesson at Newcastle Aerodrome and third prize is a large food hamper. If anyone would like to donate a prize or unwanted gift please drop in to Kilcoole Pharmacy.

LOTTO

Kilcoole GAA weekly lotto draw takes place every Monday night with the jackpot increasing €200 per week till it’s won. Pick four numbers, match four to win or share in the jackpot, match three to win or share €200. Tickets on sale in Tesco and Centra every Saturday morning or daily from some outlets or any committee member.

BINGO

Bingo is held on Monday nights in St Patrick’s Hall at 8 p.m. Everybody is welcome.

Stretch Breathe Move and Relax in our Morning Yoga Classes. These classes start Wednesday, March 8, 9.15 a.m. to 10.15 a.m. in the Newtown Community Center straight after school drop off. Classes are suitable for all levels of experience and fitness. Everyone is very welcome. Introducto­ry offer is €5 for your first class or €10 per class. For more informatio­n contact Angelika 087 2176068. NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC All our SSG teams were in action last weekend and all the teams performed very well. The under-eights hosted Wicklow Rovers White where Albie Chance, David McCormack and Aaron Nolan all scored goals in a very good contest.

The 9’s travelled to play Wicklow Town and just edged the home side by four goals to three. Aidan Heffernan (3) and Frank Lang scored the goals while William Valentine and Sebastian were among the players who starred.

The under-10s won 7-0 at home to a gallant Glencormac team where the goals came from Mason Melia (3), Cormac Chance (2), Matthew Doyle and Evan Fahey. Among the players who starred were Dylan Dunleavy and Jack Daly.

The under-11s produced their best all round team display of the season and a first clean sheet with a 6-nil home win over Avonmore Yellow. There were six different goalscorer­s and another player who reached the milestone of scoring his first ever goal, namely Martin Reinhardt. Well-done Martin. The other goals came from Aaron Cawley, Mason Melia, Ryan McMahon, Keira Farrelly and Jack Coughlan.

Congratula­tions to two of our under-15s team i.e. Josh Odlum and Andrew Waters, who have been selected for the WDSL Kennedy Cup Squad that will be played in Limerick later on this summer. They follow in a long line of star players from the club who represente­d the WDSL down the years.

Also a shout out to Martin Kelly, Darragh Heffernan, Bobby Dowling and Jason Carthy, who played for Wicklow in the Inter-League against North Dublin last weekend. Jason had the honour of scoring the Wicklow goal against the ‘ Dubs’. Well done lads.

Two players from the club celebrate a birthday in the coming week and they are Max Roche from the under-nines and Andrew Waters from the under-15s. Happy birthday lads from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC the Developmen­t Squad is back in action and they practise every Saturday morning 10.11 a.m. Cost per player each week is €2.

The teams have confirmed their training times for the week beginning Monday, March 27: Dev. Squad on Saturday, April 1, 10.11 a.m.; under-eights on Wednesdays 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. (March 29); under-nines Thursdays 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. (March 30); under-10s on Tuesdays 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. (March 28); under-11s Wednesdays 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. (March 29); under-13s Wednesdays 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. (March 29) ; under-15s Thursdays 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. (March 30) – With a bit of a stretch in the evening now, all of our teams will be shortly going outside for their training. Their respective coaches will notify all players.

Our latest Last Man Standing competitio­n will be going into week three with 41 players still standing after we lost seven players in week two. Week three fixtures will be for the weekend of Sat/Sunday, April 1/2. Many thanks to everyone for their continued support. On a sadder note the club extend their sincere condolence­s to the family and friends of Liam Woolley from Killiskey, Ashford, who sadly passed away last week. May he rest in peace.

GAA CLUB NOTES

We are delighted to announce that weather permitting our popular junior magpie’s nursery program is returning every Saturday at 10 a.m. on the pitch, an hour’s fun and excitement is guaranteed each week for four to 8year olds. If you need more info please give Barry a buzz at 086 8390507.

The under-nines are also returning to the field and are training every Tuesday at 6.30 p.m. The under-13 boys played a friendly last Monday and are training Mondays at 6.30 p.m., while the under-14 girls are out on Saturday mornings at 11 a.m. and Mondays at 7 p.m. The under-16 girls are training Mondays and Fridays at 7 p.m. the under-12 girls starting back last week and most of our teams will be startling their leagues within the next two weeks.

Well done to Laura Murphy, who played with the county under-14s last Saturday in the Leinster championsh­ip and also to Aisling McDonald who has made the Wicklow ladies panel for the remainder of the season.

We are delighted to have a large number of kids playing for our fast growing juvenile sides, more kids means more helpers so if you feel you are in a position to help in any capacity our future GAA stars then please get in touch as it takes much more than a manager to run each team. We are still short of help for some of our teams and may not be able to enter teams at all ages due to lack of mentors, please give Tom a ring at 087 6611480 or Shay at 087 2699620 for more info.
