Sacrifice raises €1,000

-

STUDENTS at Loreto made the sacrifice of giving up their phones for 24 hours to raise money for Trocaire.

The ‘phone fast’ included around 275 girls from Loreto in Bray,

Teacher Linda Keily is coordinator of the school’s Peace and Justice Group who helped organise the fast.

Loreto is one of the top 10 donors to Trocaire, because of their links with the Loreto school in South Sudan, where famine is now causing hardship.

The young women got on very well. Some found it very difficult breaking the habit, while others said it was a relief to not be so focussed on the phone.

The school held activities for them throughout the day. Each participant had a numbered badge, with the numbers linked to a raffle with spot prizes.
