Foreigner’s power ballad, ‘I Want To Know What Love Is’, blocked Philip Bailey and Phil Collins’ duet from reaching number one in the US, but it was a chart-topper in a number of other countries, including Canada, Ireland and the UK, where it spent four weeks on top. ‘Easy Lover’, co-written by Collins, Bailey and bass player Nathan East, came about after Collins was asked to produce Bailey’s 1984 album ‘Chinese Wall’. One of three UK number ones in the career of Phil Collins, ‘Easy Lover’ won an MTV Video Music Award and was nominated for a Grammy.
