- By MARY FOGARTY

The playground at Marino school in Bray was officially opened last Friday afternoon.

Minister for health Simon Harris was there for the official opening of the brand new facility.

It was head girl Rianna Dempsey who helped the minister to cut the ribbon on the new play area.

‘I was delighted to announce €20,000 of Department of Health National Lottery Funds to build this playground,’ said Minister Harris.

Members of County Wicklow’s Lions and Soroptimist clubs and the wider community of Bray also fundraised tirelessly to provide money ey for the playground.

The playground supports therapeutic intervention and learning. It includes a turtle and whale springer, soft play areas, and an integrated slide with climbing, swinging and sliding units.

‘Marino is a wonderful school that is loved by students, parents and the whole community,’ said Minister Harris. Everyone has worked extremely hard to raise funds to build this wonderful playground and I am delighted that I was in a position to deliver the final much needed funds.’

He said that he was very happy to be there on the day to open the fantastic new playgroundplayground.

‘It is a really brilliant facility for the children here in Marino school,’ said Minister Harris.

‘Well done to the many teachers and parents who have worked so very hard to deliver this. I know students will really enjoy this playground for many years to come.’

The school has been in existence in Bray for 60 years. This new playground adds a whole new dimension of fun and activities for the children in the school aged three to 18.

The launch was a very special and enjoyable day for everyone who attended.
