Three Castles Rowing Club in Blessingto­n were represente­d by seven scullers at Skibbereen regatta held at the National Rowing Centre in Cork.

Three Castles had a successful weekend with Rory Quinn winning the J18 single sculls and club member Tadgh McKnight coming a close second.

Rory then teamed up with club mate Oisin Clune to win the double sculls. They reached the A final of the doubles sculls event coming in 6th, which was won by Olympic medalists Paul and Gary O Donovan.

David Gilheany and Tadgh Mc Knight reached the C final and J16s Luke Flynn and Aaron Keogh performed very well in the J18 single and double scull events. John O’Keeffe came 5th in the final of the masters single sculls. The club is preparing for Trinity regatta in Islandbrid­ge on Easter Saturday.

Three Castles Rowing Club in Blessingto­n had a busy weekend racing at Neptune regatta on Saturday and Commercial on Sunday.

The results were very promising as the club won six events and eveyone had an enjoyable weekend.

At Neptune regatta the junior 16 double scull of Aaron Keogh and Luke Flynn won the event by racing crews from Carlow, Portoro and Commercial.

The boys U14 coxed quad of Robbie Gilheany, Daniel Devaney, Robert Collins, Eoin McLoughlin and cox Dylan Woods had a win over Athlone in the first round but St Joseph’s from Galway beat them by 2l in the semi final.

The Girls U15 quad of Orla Lyons, Abbie Tewkesbury, Amy Devaney, Emily Irwin and cox Blaithin Clune raced admirably against an Athlone crew but lost by 2l.

At Commercial Regatta, the MJ18 from the club raced a coxed quad of Oisin Clune, Rory QuinnTadgh Mc Knight,David Gilheany and cox Robbie Gilheany and won the event easily. They formed two double sculls, Oisin and Rory beat Tadgh and David in the final of the U18 doubles. Aaron and Luke won the U16 double sculls and Luke dead heated with a Carlow sculler in the final of the U16 single sculls.

Aaron lost out narrowly to J Butler from Neptune in the final of the U17 single sculls. The U14 boys quad had their first win against Offaly, D. Devaney, E. McLoughlin, R. Collins, R. Gilheany and cox D. Woods. The U15 girls quad of E Irwin, A Tewkesbury, O Lyons, B Clune and A Devaney lost out to a more experience­d Commercial crew.

The MJ16 quad of Jonathan Grace, Dara O’Brien, Caolan Higgins, Tiarnan McKnight and cox Blaithin Clune had a convincing win over Blackrock College in the heats but lost out narrowly to a Commercial crew in the semi finals.

Josh Riley, Emily Irwin and Robbie Gilheany rowed in the single sculls, rowing well until they encountere­d steering issues on the bendy river, better luck on a straight course.
