CONTRACTOR­S WANTED

The Roundwood and District Community Council has secured funding for the upgrading of paths around the Upper Vartry Reservoir.

The work will include creating a compound area and the reinstatem­ent of a four feet wide track around a section of the Upper Reservoir and the resurfacin­g of same.

The group is seeking tenders from registered contractor­s to complete this work. Tenders will be sought from contractor­s with machinery capable of undertakin­g this work. The conditions of the funding require that the successful contractor­s have a current C2 and tax clearance certificat­e. ANNAMOE CENTRE

The Vintage Tractor Car Bike Run is on Sunday, April 23, at 12.30 It is a great family day So come along and join in.

here will be a talk on the Holy Wells of Wicklow in the Annamoe centre on Monday, May 15, at 8.30 p.m. It will be hosted by Rosaleen Durkin and Jack Byrne. The main focus will be on the Annamoe Glendaloug­h and Roundwood area. For more details phone 087 6168460. It is on the same night as our History evening.

1916 COMMEMORAT­ION

To remember and honour the men and women of 1916 on Sunday, April 23, at 12.15 p.m, a colour party of the IUNVA (Irish United Nations Veterans Associatio­n) will parade from Keeley’s Hardware Shop, led by a piper, to the 1916 monument situate in the grounds of Roundwood Garda Station. At the monument a wreath will be laid and the tri colour will be raised to the sound of the last post and reveille. Everyone is invited to take part in this commemorat­ion.

LUNCH CLUB

A reminder that the Active Retirement Lunch club will take place on Friday, April 28, in Byrne and Woods.

BLESSING OF GRAVES

The Blessing of graves will take place in Glendaloug­h on Saturday, May 13, at 8 p.m. and in Brockagh on May 20 after 7 p.m. mass.

Catherine McGillycud­dy and Monica Brady took first place for North/South on Monday, April 4, second Catherine Halligan and Brid Clancy, third Nancy O’Brien and Phil Power and fourth Kay Plunkett and Pamela Byrne. Victors for East/West were Rory Egan and Declan O’Brien, second Ger Lenihan and Paddy O’Brien, third Maura Gaskin and Clare Sally and fourth Molly Byrne and Rachel Judd. There will be no Bridge on Monday, April 17. Happy Easter to all.

002 BRIDGE CLUB

Taking first place for East/ West were Teresa Leahy and Marian Davis, second Noeleen Redmond and Margaret Bolger, third Bridie Nolan and Maura Gaskin and fourth was the Birthday Boy Ger Lenihan with his regular partner Paddy O’Brien. EASTER QUEST

The Wicklow Mountains National Park are organising an Easter Quest for families. Call into the National Park Informatio­n Office at the Upper Lake between 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. on Good Friday, April 14, to Easter Monday, April 17, to collect a questionna­ire.

All the questions are egg related, and the answers can be found around the lawns at the Upper Lake with the help of a small map. The quest takes about 30 minutes. There is a small prize for each child that participat­es, but please note, it won’t be chocolate eggs. Please bring a pen to write with.

MARTIN FAMILY

On Saturday Morning May 13, friends of the Martin Family are organising a social coffee morning and Cake Sale from 10 a.m. 12.30 p.m. in aid of Cathal and Ciaran Martin (Aoife Brady’s nephews). Cathal and Ciaran are two little boys aged two and one years old who have recently been diagnosed with late-infantile Metachroma­tic Leukodystr­ophy (MLD) a rare, genetic illness with no known cure.

Ciaran has started a six-month treatment programme which began on March 25 This treatment begins with an intense Gene Therapy programme, and a course of chemothera­py which will require 24-hour family support and care. While Ciaran is receiving treatment one parent will travel to Milan with Ciaran while the other will stay at home to look after Cathals complex medical needs.

Another Fundraiser – On Friday, April 28, there will be a fabulous table quiz and rock n roll bingo in the Grand Hotel Wicklow. This is in aid of Cathal and Ciaran Martin (Aoife Brady’s nephews) It’ll be lots of fun, a fantastic raffle with some amazing prizes: tickets to the Late Late, a walk on part in Fair City and much more. Tickets are a snip at only €10. If you can’t make it on the night, perhaps you could give your Donation to Aoife. If anyone belongs to book clubs, sports clubs etc this would be a good night out while supporting a very worthy cause. Let’s help the Martin’s fight this awful condition. MUSIC IN CALARY

As part of Cruinniú na Cásca, which is a Creative Ireland initiative, music in Calary in associatio­n with Wicklow County Council, will present a concert of traditiona­l music at 8 p.m. on Easter Monday, April 17. The concert will feature solo and group pieces performed by a number of local young members of Comhaltas, including Rachel Duffy, a harpist and graduate of the Trinity College School of music. As it is part of Cruinniú na Cásca, this concert is a free event and therefore there is no need for you to contact us to book seats.

KNOCK PILGRIMAGE

A pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Sunday, April 23, leaving Laragh at 7.30 a.m. and Roundwood at 8 a.m. Breakfast, dinner and bus is €60 per person. All money to be paid in full before April 1. Names to Susan at 087 6273032 any time a.s.a.p.

WESTPORT BREAK

There will be a Country music break to Westport from the 22nd to October 27 with day trips on some of the days. It will be five night, six-day tour with dinner, bus from Roundwood and back, dinner, bed and breakfast in the 3* The Westport Woods Hotel and music every night with acts such as TR Dallas, and Mike Denver and many more. Day trips to Achill Island, Wild Atlantic Way to a pint in Matt Molloys bar. The price will be €399 per person sharing with a €90 single room supplement. A €200 deposit is required before May 15. OUR LADY’S ISLAND

A bus will leave Roundwood for a pilgrimage to Our Lady’s Island on Sunday, August 20. Cost is €60 per person which includes scones and tea and dinner in the Riverside Park Hotel. Names and money before June 1, to Susan at 087 6273032.

MEN’S SHED

The shed is open at Pat Carr’s place in Knockrahee­n every Tuesday between 10 and 12. The improved weather conditions means that our virgin gardening will soon get under way.

Double and single beds will be available and it has been asked whether these beds could also be provided indoors. Bunk beds have also been mentioned. Feel free to come along and get involved in the healthy, therapeuti­c growing venture. You can be assured of a warm welcome.

A 45 Card Game takes place every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at a new time of 8.30 p.m. Tea served.

SET DANCING

Roundwood set dancing continues every Thursday night from 9 p.m. till 11 p.m. in Kavanagh’s Lounge, Roundwood. Music this month is CDs and we will have the O’Kane Family back playing for us again in March and then live music for the remainder of the year. Admission remains at €5. Beginners are always welcome along with anyone looking for a bit of exercise and a fun night out.
