Ecumenical procession

Greystones churches will unite for the annual Good Friday Ecumenical Procession from the Church of the Holy Rosary to St Patrick’s Church, in the town.

The procession will start at noon on Good Friday (April 14), with stops along the route for readings and prayers. It will finish with soup and rolls in the Swann Hall for all participan­ts.

Good Friday lunch

A soup and scone lunch will be held in the Parish Centre, Church Lane, Newcastle (opposite the Church of Ireland Church), at 12.30 p.m. During lunch, which will, in the monastic tradition be eaten in silence, Jesus’ life from His birth to His crucifixio­n will be read from St. Mark’s Gospel. There is no charge for lunch instead there will be an opportunit­y to make a donation to the ongoing work of the Tiglin centre. Organisers invite everyone to join us for a period of stillness and reflection on this most special day.

Clean-up

Greystones Tidy Towns are organising and encouragin­g A Big Cleanup on Thursda, April 20 at 7 p.m.

Organisers are hoping residents Businesses and residents associatio­ns will take a look at their locality and give a big push to clean up. This can be as small as just getting the how out and cleaning the kerb outside your house.

Businesses thinks about those pavements and maybe this is the time to consider a lick of paint, and residents associatio­ns time to look at those tired winter beds and unsightly areas and get a gang out to do a big Spring Clean. we would also encourage schools to look at ideas or projects to enliven and clean up area adjacent to their schools.

Kilquade cup

The Kilquade cup golf competitio­n will take place at Delgany Golf Club on Friday, May 26.

The annual golf outing is held to raise funds for the parish of Kilquade, which includes Kilquade, Delgany, Kilcoole, Newcastle and Newtown.

Tee times will be available between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Arboretum Kilquade are the main sponsors for the event, with a number of supporting sponsors.

The cost is €120 for a team of four. Hole Sponsorshi­p is available for €130. Cheques can be made payable to Kilquade Parish and sent to Fr John Daly at Kilquade Parish Office, Kilquade.

Organisers are appealing for contributi­ons and raffle prizes.

Children’s storytime

The popular children’s storytime has moved to the slightly later time of 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday mornings at Greystones Library.

The session is suitable for babies up to children aged six years. All are welcome to come along for some super stories as well as the chance to meet other parents and carers. No booking is required.

Newcastle Market

The regular Saturday morning market takes place at Newcastle Community Centre.

The market will be on from 10.30 a.m. to 12 midday with fresh vegetables and produce available.

Holy Rosary social

Holy Rosary parish social, hobby and craft afternoon will and take place on the first Sunday of each month.

The event will take place at Kilian House Family Centre from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. each month.

Refreshmen­ts are available at €1.50. The event is for people aged 18 and older. For more informatio­n go to greystones­parish.ie.

Mini marathon

Greystones Cancer Support is inviting people to their sign-up day for the VHI Mini Marathon.

This will take place at the Beach House, on Sunday, April 9, from 12.30 p.m. until 1.30 p.m.

Greystones Cancer Support is seeking walkers, runners, and joggers to support them at the event in Dublin on bank holiday Monday, June 5.

On Sunday they will have sponsor cards and informatio­n on how to sign up for the mini marathon, as well as informatio­n about their group.

The group relies on voluntary help and donations to continue their work.

Active retirement

Greystones Active Retirement will take a cruise for their 2017 summer holiday.

The trip will be for 11 days to France, Spain and Portugal.

Dementia Friends

Greystones Dementia Friends is a local group for those caring for someone with dementia.

The group meets every Friday morning in the Burnaby Lounge at 11 a.m. The group would love to welcome anyone caring for those with dementia.

Yoga classes in Newcastle

A new term in yoga and mindfulnes­s classes has started in Newcastle Le Cheile. Back care yoga is on from 7.45 p.m. to 8.45 p.m., €130 for 10 weeks, and Thursday, September1­5, 10.30 a.m. to midday, €170 for 12 weeks. The classes include yoga postures, mindful breathing, relaxation and medication practices and are suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. The cost is €16 to drop in for a class. Invitation to Men’s Shed

Greystones Men’s Shed is open at the first Wicklow Scout Hall on Church Road.

Yoga for kids is available

Yoga classes for children are available in Greystones.

Classes are on Tuesdays and for preschool pupils from 12.50 p.m. to 1.40 p.m.; for junior and senior infants from 1.50 p.m. to 2.40 p.m.; for first to sixth class from 3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. and secondary school students from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. There are also classes for students of St Patrick’s National School on Thursday and Friday. Jazz performanc­es

A new weekly jazz club is in residence at Theatre Lane in Greystones on Thursdays.

Italian jazz guitarist Francesco Amico and vocalist Kerry Anderson play in the restaurant­s on Thursday nights from 7.30 p.m.

Coffee morning

A coffee morning will take place at YWCA, Trafalgar Road, on Thursday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. A suggested donation of €2 will go towards the developmen­t of an on-site youth cafe.

Dance club

The Wicklow Dance Club is taking a break from it’s Bel Air base and moving closer to town - to the Hot Spot Music Club on Easter Saturday, April 15.

Two comfortabl­e rustic rooms for dancing, sitting, chatting, drinking at the bar, and dancing again. Doors at 8 p.m. Tickets in advance €8, or pay €10 on the door.

Air coach changes

A new Greystones route 702 Air Coach timetable came into effect on January 1.

Coach service from Dublin airport leaves terminal 1 at five minutes past the hour.

Coach service to Dublin Airport leaves Charleslan­d either on the hour or ten past the hour, depending on time of day.
