Plans to demolish Killincarrig House

-

A planning application has been made to demolish Killincarrig House in Delgany and build an apartment block.

Targeted Investment Opportunities applied last month to demolish the 353 square metre, two-storey house and build a three-storey apartment block.

The application is for 22 apartments and nine houses.

The development would include two retail units with apartments upstairs.

Previous planning permission for a nursing home and houses on the site expired in 2015. The 19th century house has been vacant for around 30 years.

There were two other Killincarrig houses in the area in the past. The original one was at the current golf club on Whitshed Road. When the owners, the Hawkins/Whitshed family, decided to build a better one closer to the sea, they took the house name with them.

The new house was opposite the Greystones United football grounds, roughly where Woodlands apartment block is now. That house burned down in the 1970s.

Burnaby estate farm manager Wilfred Evans and his family were given the house by the Burnaby family in the 60s. The house was already in poor condition then and the family moved out some years later.

The decision is due by May 25, and submissions can be made to Wicklow County Council by May 4.
