Final event of BIFE arts fest
AS BIFE Festival of Arts drew to a close, music production students presented their fascinating sound installation ‘Sonic Chambers’ at the college.
For two days, members of the public got to interact with a range of unique devices which produced sounds of all varieties.
In Sonic chambers, the worlds of music and technology combined to make a series of interactive sound experiences, putting the user in control and with no musical background required.
The students worked on their designs over a period of months. The projects included the ‘Pentomasher’, in which would-be musicians could remix their favourite hip-hop beats.
Visitors to the installation got to zone out with the Singing Bowls and the Monochord, and find their X-Factor with the Starbox.
They also got to see sound in motion through Rubenstube.
In ‘Pendulum Music’ microphones were swung across speakers to create feedback. The listeners and players enjoyed binaural beats and audio and more as part of the experience. On their opening night, the students provided refreshments for their guests and explained how each creation worked.
