THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY, TV3, FRIDAY 11.10PM

-

SET in the turbulent years of the early 1920s, Ken Loach’s fine historical drama stars Cillian Muprhy and Padraic Delaney as two brothers who fight side by side in a Cork flying column during the War of Independence but end up on opposite sides in the ensuing Civil War.

The film takes its title from the Robert Dwyer Joyce’s “The Wind That Shakes the Barley”, a song set during the 1798 rebellion in Ireland and featured early in the film.

Widely praised, the film won the Palme d’Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival.

Also starring Liam Cunnigham, Orla Fitzgerald and Roger Allam.
