WEEKS of tough tennis came to a head recently, as the finals of the Momentum Financial Services Ltd handicaps took place at Wicklow Tennis Club.

There was some super tennis on display during the three weeks of the competition and it was more of the same at the finals on Friday, April 7. The original 80 players had been whittled down to 16 finalists, with some of those players taking part in two finals.

The ladies single handicap champion was Clare Murphy, with Ciara Kavanagh in runner-up spot, while Sean Garland was victorious over Joe Hillman in the men’s single final.

In the doubles, Ciara Kavanagh and Jill Flood were the ladies champions and Peter Finnegan and Conor Ruttledge the men’s winners, ahead of Niamh Cassidy and Fiona Gormley and Mark Tindale and Joe Hillman respectively.

In mixed doubles, top honours went to Jean Baker and John Curry after they defeated Carol Byrne and Tom McConnell.

The presentation of prizes followed the tennis, with club captain Jean Baker thanking Momentium Financial Services for their continued support. She also thanked the team behind the organisation of the tournament and Mary Frances Sinnott for providing refreshments on the night.
