Sixty bags of rubbish collected during clean-up in Sally Gap

-

SIXTY bags of rubbish were collected during a recent litter pick along a 10km section of the Sally Gap.

Organised by Wicklow Uplands Council to coincide with National Spring Clean Week, the clean-up took place on Saturday, April 8, and aimed to highlight the issue of loose litter in the uplands.

The weather was fabulous and there was a great turn out of litter pickers. Armed with high visibility vests and picking sticks, the group was divided into teams which spent almost three hours collecting up everything from paper cups to old boots and car jacks to bottles from the roadside.

On return to base camp, it was unanimously decided that it had been a very satisfying morning’s work. A total of 60 bags of litter were collected and stored before being taken away by the PURE Project.

Wicklow Uplands Council would like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their Saturday morning to help with this very worthwhile task. They would also like to thank An Taisce, Wicklow County Council Environmental Awareness Office, The PURE Project and The Vartry House in Roundwood for the refreshments.

Wicklow Uplands Council encourages people to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Wicklow Hills and to take their litter home.
