- By DEBORAH COLEMAN

COMMUNITIES across County Wicklow will come out in force on Saturday, May 6, for the annual Darkness into Light event in aid of Pieta House.

The walk, which begins in the dark and ends just as the sun rises, will take place in four towns this year – Arklow, Wicklow, Bray and Baltinglass – and was launched the Arklow Bay Hotel last Tuesday.

A packed launch event welcomed Senator Joan Freeman along with colleagues from self-harm and suicide support organisation Pieta House and representatives from main Darkness into Light sponsor Electric Ireland.

Senator Freeman spoke about how Darkness into Light has grown from a small idea to a global fundraiser spanning four continents and thanked every single volunteer for their hard work and support.

Oisin Molloy on behalf of Darkness into Light’s Arklow committee thanked everyone for their continued support and welcomed the organising committees from Wicklow town, Baltinglass and Bray.

Members of Arklow Sea Scouts, Wicklow Lions Club and An Garda Siochana also attended the event to show their continued support.

The Wicklow towns are among 150 venues that will host walks from 4.14 a.m. on Saturday, May 6.

Walkers will meet at the Scout Hall in Arklow, Weaver Square in Baltinglass, Leitrim Place in Wicklow town and the Seafront in Bray ahead of the walk.
