EXPECTING THE UNEXPECTED

Moorehouse not looking beyond London battle

-

WHEN Wicklow take on London in Aughrim next Sunday they will be led out by Christy Moorehouse. Speaking to Moorehouse before training last weekend, it is evident that the captain will not be fazed by any of the standard pre-championship hype.

While the season has been overwhelmingly positive so far, Moorehouse is yet to get his hands on silverware as captain this year after two disappointing final defeats.

Despite this, he remains relaxed and focussed on the task at hand.

‘We got a got a good run in the Kehoe Cup, it was basically a case of trying out lads and trying to find our best team but it was a good run out, we played a superb team on the day. We parked that fairly quickly and moved on to the national league and we had a good run in it as well.

‘What we need to do now is just keep going and try to forget about both competitions and focus on the Christy Ring. I think it’s healthy after you’re beaten in a final to get a few games to reflect on it and we came back the Thursday night after the league final.

‘Meath were always the favourites with where they’ve been.

‘They won the Christy Ring, twice in the one year actually, so they were big favourites but we weren’t too far away from them. We had a lot of wasted chances. We could have been closer but we have parked that as well and we’ve trained well since.

‘With London next week it’s a big step but if we can get over that one everything will be rosy again so that’s the one we’re looking forward to.

‘With London it’s a case of expect the unexpected really. They have great players and they can bring in players at any time but it’s just a matter of us turning up and implementing our game on them instead of waiting to see what they have so it’s going to be tough.

‘It’s obviously going to be a big step up in preparation. When the Christy Ring comes around you have to put all your eggs in one basket and give it a good rattle.

‘I believe the lads are preparing well so hopefully everyone stays fit and the few lads who have had injuries over the past few weeks can get back on board for London.’
