Gardai in Bray believe that they have identified the remains of a man whose body washed up on Bray Beach on March 27.

Gardaí released images of the deceased man’s clothing and personal belongings last week and they received a number of calls on foot of that appeal.

‘We are almost certain we know who the man was,’ said Supt Pat Ward. He said that gardaí are carrying out DNA analysis to be absolutely sure.

‘We got a number of calls following the media appeal, with a number of reports for people whom it might have been,’ said Supt Ward.

The DNA testing is in order to rule those out. It is hoped that the results will be confirmed today ( Wednesday).

Gardai believe that the person they are looking at had been living in the Bray area but was not a native of the town, and may have been estranged from his family. The deceased man was in his 40s. He was carrying the Spike Milligan autobiography: ‘Rommell?’ ‘Gunner Who?’, among his personal belongings.

A passer-by discovered the body of the man on the morning of March 27. He was not carrying identification at the time. Gardai believe that the deceased person died as a result of drowning.
