Hollywood fall away to Coolkenno

-

The game was scoreless for the next ten minutes as both defences successfully thwarted all scoring efforts. Tony Hannon levelled matters again with a pointed free on 22 minutes.

Conor Walker created an opening for the home side and put them ahead a minute later. David Tompkins added another and midfielder Conor Foyle landed a fine point coming up to the break. John Corcoran in the Coolkenno goal brought off a great save just before half time when he advanced quickly to block a shot from Ciaran Tyrell, who had been put through on goal with a Garrett Bell fisted pass. Coolkenno led out the break by 0-5 to 0-2.

Hollywood made a great effort all through the second period to close the gap. Tony Hannon pointed a free after six minutes but Conor Walker responded for the home side five minutes later.

Ciaran Tyrell pointed for Hollywood when he picked up a loose clearance from the Coolkenno full-back line. David Tompkins pointed again for Coolkenno two minutes later.

Full-forward Paul Murphy had a great chance to put the home side well clear on 16 minutes when he was put through by Eamon Rossiter. However, his rising shot came back off the crossbar and Hollywood breathed again. David Tompkins, who had a fine second half, pointed again to put four points between the sides.

Garrett Bell came deep for the kick out and finished on the end of the movement he started to reduce the margin again with a fine point. Hollywood were working and pressing hard now and Tony Hannon pointed a 45, having struck the post with a free from a similar distance a minute earlier.

When John T. Burke pointed in the twenty third minute the gap was down to one point and Hollywood’s hard grafting was paying off.

However, the next two scores sealed the game. Paddy Dalton picked up a midfield break, passed inside, took the return and scored a great point from about 40 meters. Conor Doyle, who had an outstanding game at midfield, repeated the dose a minute later from almost 50 meters. Stephan Kearney and Eamon Rossiter exchanged points before the end. Hollywood were pressing hard for an equalising goal at the call of time but the Coolkenno defence held firm to leave the homesters worthy winners of a good game by 0-11 to 0-8.
