The Alpha/In-Between Book Club: Last night (Tuesday) Lily Byrne hosted the April meeting of the club at which the book for review and discussion was ‘The Trouble with Goats and Sheep’ by Joanna Cannon, and the book for the May meeting selected.

ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

St Patrick’s Chapel, Loughlinst­own: The celebratio­n of the Sunday 9 a.m. Mass has now ceased in the chapel and will not resume till later this year when essential maintenanc­e has been completed.

Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangemen­ts. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificat­e should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediatel­y.

Pre-Baptism Meetings: Pre-Baptism Meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month for parents presenting their children for baptism the following month.

Room Hire – St Anne’s Resource Centre: At present we have availabili­ty in the centre for room hire. If you are interested in running your class or course please contact Melissa Tobin at 01 2822777 for further informatio­n. Facilities include Free car park, tea or coffee, Use of whiteboard and projector, Flipchart Stands, three rooms available with capacity for 80 people, 25 people, or 15 people.

Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament: The UAC hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 22nd of each month. This is a worldwide initiative by the Pallottine Family to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and the Religious Life. May Bank Holiday: Monday, May 1, is the feast of St Joseph and a Bank Holiday. Mass will be at 10 a.m. only – no Evening Mass.

Thank You: Caitríona and Sophie, two students from our parish, who held a cake sale in St Anne’s Resource Centre last Sunday morning after the 10.30 a.m. and midday Masses to raise money to volunteer in Zambia, thank all those who supported this event.

Share Appeal Day: The annual Diocesan Share Appeal will be held at all Masses this weekend. Thank you for your support.

Scoil Mhuire: A photograph­ic exhibition to mark Scoil Mhuire’s 40th Anniversar­y will be on view in the School Hall from 1.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday).

Hospitalit­y Sunday: This Sunday is Hospitalit­y Sunday and the Hospitalit­y Team invite everyone for tea or coffee in St Anne’s Resource Centre after the 10.30 a.m. Sunday Mass.

April Film Night This Saturday: Takes place at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre – doors open at 7.30 p.m. The film being screened is William Wylers ‘Roman Holiday’, starring Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn and Eddie Albert. All welcome – admission free.

Slow Down – Road Safety: We ask all drivers to remain vigilant when arriving for all Sunday Masses especially the 10.30 a.m. Mass, as young children will be approachin­g St Anne’s Resource Centre for the Sunday Liturgy Group.

Youth 2000 – Meeting for Youth: We invite all 16- to 35-yearolds to come to the church every Thursday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. to gather for a time of Adoration, prayer, music, reflection and fellowship. Appeal For Adorers. Did you know that our Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel is open Monday to Friday from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and also from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. At present, we are appealing for people to ‘watch one hour’ with the Lord. There will be a book in the Chapel for you to sign in. If there is no one present when you have to leave the Chapel, we ask that you close over the tabernacle doors.

Altar Society: The Altar Socie- ty comprises of parishione­rs who prepare and arrange floral displays for the church each week, working either singly or in pairs. The use of fresh flowers enhances the church space especially the sanctuary, and these floral displays also help to reflect the changing Seasons of both the calendar year and the church’s year. If you are interested in joining the Altar Society please call into the parish office.

Suggestion Box: We now have a Suggestion Box in the church. We welcome suggestion­s/Comments/ideas you may have with regard to improving our Parish Community. These suggestion­s will be brought to the Pastoral Council Meetings which are held monthly.

Men’s coffee morning: The Men’s coffee morning takes place every Friday from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Please join us if you are free.

The Shankill Active Retirement Associatio­n (SARA) meets at 3 p.m. on the third Monday of the month in St Anne’s Resource Centre. New members always welcome.

BOOK SALE

On Saturday, May 6, the May First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n and Meals on Meals, will take place in the Shankill Old Folks Day Centre, Lower Road, Shankill, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. so make a point of calling into the book sale this Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the summer. Donations of books, other than school/text books, accepted on the day.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. The library is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The library will be open this Friday but close don Saturday and next Monday due to May Bank Holiday. ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. SHANKILL GAA CLUB

The most recent club developmen­t lotto draw took place last Thursday night in Brady’s Pub Tickets were €2 each or three for €5.

Our Academy continues on Saturday mornings in Shanganagh Castle at 10 a.m. The cost is €2 per child, there is no annual subscripti­on and all equipment is provided free. So why not come along any Saturday morning and give the Academy a try.

Our under-nine boys’ football team had a fantastic day playing in the Go Games matches in Croke Park which was a brilliant experience and great memories for the young players registrati­on of players (outside of the Academy) and fees will be accepted any Saturday in the castle.

Our golf classic will be held in Woodbrook Golf Club on Friday, June 30,. Team of four players €300 and includes a meal. TIDY TOWNS

Come and join one of work teams on Saturday Mornings from 10 a.m. to midday and on Tuesday Mornings from 10 a.m. to midday. Meet outside Brady’s pub.

Last Saturday the annual Clean Up Day took place in which communitie­s were encouraged to join us to clean up our neighbourh­ood. Work parties assembled outside the Garda Station or at the top of Quinn’s Road at 2 p.m. and then began working at various locations for the afternoon.

SUNKEN FOREST

Shankill Action for a Greener Earth (SAGE): Tomorrow (Thursday) there is an opportunit­y to see the 6800-year old Sunken Forest north of Bray Harbour. Meet at low tide in Bray Harbour at 6.30 p.m. Wear rubber boots and please take care as ground conditions may be slippery. Speakers Dr Robin Edwards and Dr Jason Bolton.
