KILCOOLE PUPILS INTO REGIONAL FINAL OF ‘OUR WORLD IRISH AID AWARDS’

-

THE clever pupils of Kilcoole Primary School have beaten off the challege of hundreds of other entries to be named as one of 15 regional finalists in the Our World Irish Aid Awards.

Pupils and teachers from the school will showcase their project at the Dub- lin regional final, one of four regional finals taking place, on Tuesday, May 16.

More than 1,300 primary schools explored the theme of ‘For People and Planet’ in their entries.

In Kilcoole, Ruth Clifford’s fifth class entered a project called ‘ The Irish Aid UN Global Goals for People and Planet Journey’, which was a large, colourful scrapbook project. The class focused on the fourth UN Global Goal for Sustainable Development and recycling. They conducted an interview with someone who works at the UN and also composed songs and poems. The pupils also created colourful information leaflets and held a bake sale to raise awareness of the sustainable development goals and to buy a goat for a family in Tanzania.

All 15 schools taking part in the Dublin regional final will be presented with an ‘Our World Irish Aid Award’ plaque, and three schools will be selected to compete alongside nine other schools in the Our World Irish Aid national final in Dublin Castle on Tuesday, June 13.
