arate the teams and it was on to extra time, with time running out Cian Leonard popped up with the all important winner to give the lads a well-deserved victory.

Up next was the 13As and they added the Premier Cup to their Premier Shield to make it two from two as they defeated a spirited Newtown side 3-1.

Willoughby Woods, Jordan Younger and Sean O’Meara hit the Rovers goal and they will be hoping to go on now and claim the Premier League title and complete the treble.

Another team who will be seeking to claim a treble is our 12As, they added the Premier Cup to the Premier Shield when they defeated Aughrim 3-0, goals from Kai Fitzsimons, Louis Malcolmson and Oscar Malcolmson now means they have two in the bag as they go in search of the league title over the next couple of weeks.

Congratulations to all three teams on their success.

Our under-13 girls defeated Cambridge 2-1 with goals from Molly Sweeney and Aoife Caffrey.

The under-15As went down 5-1 away to St Anthonys under-16s. The lads never really got going in this game. Deano Doran nabbed his second goal of the season and his second in as many games.

Well our Last Man Standing competition came to an end at the weekend, Senior manager Greg Dunne claimed the title of Last Man Standing champion and, more importantly, the €500 prize.

His selection, Chelsea, easily saw off Everton winning 3-0 while the other three players exited the competition when two players picked Crystal Palace and they went down 2-0 to Burnley.

Past winner Anthony Earls went out when his selection Southampton could only manage a scoreless draw. A big congratulations to Greg on his win, also we would like to thank everyone who took part in our competition, your continuous support is very much appreciated. three outstanding saves during the game, Andrew Waters who was excellent in defence, Josh Odlum was pulling the strings in midfield while Ryan Smillie worked tirelessly up front.

The rest of the winning team were, Ciaran Mangan, Stephen Doran, Ben Moran, Alex Byrne, Andrew McMahon, Alex Kelly, Steven Coughlan, Sean Douglas and Josh Kennedy.

Well done also to their coach Stephen Nolan.

Unfortunately for the second week running our under-13s had to play second best to Wicklow Rovers ‘A’ in a final, this time the cup final.

The game played in difficult conditions produced chances for both teams with Bobby Dowling having the best one for Newtown.

Shortly before half-time, Rovers took the lead and early in the second half two quickfire goals gave Rovers control of the game.

To give them their due the Newtown never gave up and for the second week running Shane Dunleavy scored for Newtown with a fine strike from distance.

It wasn’t to be however and Rovers held on to take the cup and well done to them.

Disappointment for our team but they can be proud of their display despite the result.

They must remember that two years ago they were playing in Division 3 so they have made giant strides.

On the day the squad was Ryan Clarke, Rebecca Gillan, Laragh Davis, Jason Carthy, Shane Dunleavy, Shane Synnott, Marcel Kocajda, Darragh Heffernan, Fionn O’Reilly, Bobby Dowling, Martin Kelly, Simon Plant, Sam Gillan, Luke Breen and Bogdan Rusu. Well done to their coaches Dave McGuirk and John Dunleavy.

In the rest of the week’s action our under-8s were left with no game after their opposition failed to appear.

The under-9s played two games, on Thursday they hosted Roundwood and they played out a series of close game where among the players who starred were Kacey Kelly, Eva and Pat Carey and Max Roche.

On Sunday morning they played away to Greystones ‘D’ and after a great game, Aidan Heffernan, William Valentine and Mikey Synnott all found the net.

Best players on the day were Albie Chance, Frank Lang, Dylan Dunleavy and Luke Turley.

The under-10s played a high scoring game with Coolboy Rangers despite losing 5-7.

There was a first ever goal for Rose Tynan Kelly and goals for Jake Robertson (2), Cormac Chance and Jack Daly. On the day the Newtown team tried hard but it was just one of those days.

The under-11s won 5-3 away to Enniskerry Red where Mason Melia and Keira Farrelly both scored twice and an own goal completed their total. Best for Newtown were Hannah Martin, Aaron Hackett and Iggy Szpilka.

The following are the fixtures for the weekend of May 3 to 7:

We are hoping to have a ladies team competing in the Dublin Women’s Soccer League but we need to recruit a number of new players as emigration etc has seriously depleted our squad.

If you are 16 or over and are interested in playing please give Hughie a call at 087 6987653 for further details.

If we don’t get a good response we’ll have to knock the team on the head for this season, which would be a pity, so fingers crossed.

We have four players from the club celebrating a birthday in the coming week and they are Ryan McDonald and John Turley from the under-8s, Patrick Martin from the under-10s and Ryan McGuirk from the under-15s.

Happy birthday lads from everyone at Newtown Juniors F.C.

Our latest Last Man Standing competition may be going into Week 7, but then again it may not.

Going into the Monday night game (Watford vs Liverpool) seven of the ten players who were still standing have bitten the dust leaving the three players who had selected Liverpool biting their nails in pursuit of the €465 prize.

Watch this space! Many thanks to everyone for their continued support.
