Wreath laid in Kilmac on anniversary of Rising

-

A wreath was laid at the commemorative garden in Kilmacanogue last week, on the calendar anniversary of the 1916 Rising. The ceremony took place on the evening of Thursday, April 24, while the Rising took place on April 24, 1916. Members of the community gathered to mark the solemn occasion. John Flynn laid the wreath at the garden on behalf of the Kilmacanogue 1916 Commemoration Committee. The Kilmac community put in a huge effort last year to commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Rising, fundraising for their garden and installing it in time for the 100th anniversary.

JAson Doyle, Chairperson of the committee, said that since the N11 was upgraded, the village lacked a communal centre.

‘We really felt the garden offered that as well as a very dignified tribute to the volunteers involved in the uprising,’ said Jason.

The ceremony to mark the calendar anniversary was very moving and meant a lot to everyone present at 7.30 p.m. that evening in Kilmacanogue.
