Rehearsals are in full swing for this year’s production of ‘The Beauty Queen of Leenane’. Performances run from the May 9 to May 11 at the Knight’s Theatre in Newcastle. Tickets are available from the school.
FASHION SHOW
Many thanks to all who supported the Fashion Show last Thursday, April 27, in Fishers Newtownmountkennedy. This event was organised by the parents’ council, with all money raised going back into student services. There were a number of familiar faces on the catwalk, with staff and students strutting their stuff on the night.
TRANSITION YEAR NEWS
On Monday, April 24, the Transition Year students had a talk from Fionnbar Walsh from the Donal Walsh LiveLife Foundation. Fionnbar shared the moving story of his son Donal’s battle with cancer and his efforts to promote positive mental health and wellbeing among teenagers before he died in 2014. The LiveLife Foundation was set up in Donal’s memory and aims to pass on his message to teenagers to live their lives and to seek help if needed.
PARENTS INFOEVENING
Paula Tunney of Community Awareness of Drugs will host a Parents’ Information Evening on drugs and alcohol in the school on Wednesday, May 17, at 7.30 p.m.

Congratulations to Casey Walsh in third year, who recently received a black belt in Karate. This is a marvellous achievement for Casey following a great deal of effort and hard work. Well done.
FIRST YEAR BOYS FOOTBALL
Well done to the First Year Boys Football team on reaching the final of the ‘A’ Championship for the first time in the schools’ history. The lads beat Dunlavin last week on a scoreline of 4-08 to 2-08. They now play our neighbours Templecarrig in the final on Friday, May 5, Best of luck, boys.
JUNIOR GAELIC FOOTBALL
Commiserations to the Junior Boys Gaelic Football team who lost the semi-final before Easter. Well done to all who put in a brave effort but were beaten by a better team on the day.
