ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmation certificates or application forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificates and application forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confessions are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannesparishshankill.com and then clicking onto video link.

St Patrick’s Chapel, Loughlinstown: The celebration of the Sunday 9 a.m. Mass has now ceased in the chapel and will not resume till later this year when essential maintenance has been completed.

Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangements. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificate should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediately.

Pre-Baptism Meetings: Pre-Baptism Meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month for parents presenting their children for baptism the following month.

Room Hire – St Anne’s Resource Centre: At present we have availability in the centre for room hire. If you are interested in running your class or course please contact Melissa Tobin at 01 2822777 for further information. Facilities include Free car park, tea or coffee, Use of whiteboard and projector, Flipchart Stands, three rooms available with capacity for 80 people, 25 people, or 15 people.

Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament: The UAC hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 22nd of each month. This is a worldwide initiative by the Pallottine Family to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and the Religious Life. Slow Down – Road Safety: We ask all drivers to remain vigilant when arriving for all Sunday Masses especially the 10.30 a.m. Mass, as young children will be approaching St Anne’s Resource Centre for the Sunday Liturgy Group.

Secret Choir Appeal for Voices: Each Wednesday till May May 31 31st in preparation for evening Mass on Pentecost Sunday – June 4. Musicians and singers of all ages are welcome to join.

Magnificat Prayer Book: The May copy of the Magnificat Prayer Book is available in the parish office for €5. It contains the readings and prayers for daily Mass. It also contains meditations, lives of the Saints, prayer for Morning and Evening, based on the Liturgy of the Hours. Please let us know in the parish office if you would like us to reserve a copy each month for you.

Youth 2000 – Meeting for Youth: We invite all 16- to 35-yearolds to come to the church every Thursday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. to gather for a time of Adoration, prayer, music, reflection and fellowship. Followed by a cup of tea and social from 9 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. youth2000.ie.

Appeal For Adorers. Did you know that our Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel is open Monday to Friday from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and also from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. At present, we are appealing for people to ‘watch one hour’ with the Lord. There will be a book in the Chapel for you to sign in. If there is no one present when you have to leave the Chapel, we ask that you close over the tabernacle doors.

Altar Society: The Altar Society comprises of parishioners who prepare and arrange floral displays for the church each week, working either singly or in pairs. The use of fresh flowers enhances the church space especially the sanctuary, and these floral displays also help to reflect the changing Seasons of both the calendar year and the church’s year. If you are interested in joining the Altar Society please call into the parish office.

Suggestion Box: There is now a Suggestion Box in the church. We welcome any suggestions/ comments/ideas you may have with regard to improving our Parish Community. These suggestions will be brought to the Pastoral Council Meetings which are held monthly.

Men’s coffee morning: The Men’s coffee morning takes place every Friday from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Please join us if you are free.

BOOK SALE

This Saturday morning the May First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Association and Meals on Meals, will take place in the Shankill Old Folks Day Centre, Lower Road, Shankill, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. so make a point of calling into the book sale on Saturday morning and avail of the opportunity to pick up some excellent reading material for the summer. Donations of books, other than school/text books, accepted on the day.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. The library is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The library will be closed this Friday but open on Saturday. HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Events coming up for members of the Rathmichael Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and surrounding area, are tomorrow (Thursday) nights 8 p.m. meeting of the Mount Merrion Historical Society in the Community Centre, North Avenue, Mount Merrion, Co. Dublin, at which Cormac Lowth will present his lecture ‘The Sinking of the Lusitania’ – all welcome – admission €4/Students €2; Saturdays Medal and Militaria Fair organised by the Medal Society of Ireland which takes place between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the Knox Memorial Hall, Monkstown Village, Co. Dublin. All welcome – admission €4 visitors/€2 members; and next Tuesday nights 8 p.m. meeting of the Genealogical Society of Ireland in the Dún Laoghaire Further Education Institute, Cumberland Street, Dún Laoghaire, Co. ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. GAA CLUB NEWS

The most recent club development lotto draw was held last Thursday night in Brady’s Pub. Tickets were €2 each or three for €5. Our Academy continues in Shanganagh Castle at 10 a.m. every Saturday. The cost is €2 per child, there is no annual subscription and all equipment is provided free. So why not come along any Saturday morning and give the Academy a try.

Our under-9 Hurling team had a fantastic match away to Stars of Erin on Saturday morning. Sunday saw a double header in the castle when the Shankill under-eight and under-nine girls’ football teams took on Ballyboden Wanderers. There was unbelievable excitement and great skills on show at these two games.

We hadn’t time to get our breath back when on the stroke of midday our under-11 girls’ football team took to the field for a match against St Mark’s. This was another rip roaring affair with some great scores and great play all over the field. Our adult men’s football team were not so fortunate as they lost to Erin Go Bragh in the championship, fading towards the end of the match. Players for the adult team are very welcome – contact Kevin at 086 8449902. Registration of players (outside of the Academy) and fees will be accepted any Saturday in the castle.

Our golf classic will be held in Woodbrook Golf Club on Friday, June 30. Team of four players €300 and includes a meal. Contact Jimmy Nolan at 087 2633203 as the time sheet is now open.
