DRAMA

Best wishes to the CCA Players, who will take to the stage for this year’s production of ‘The Beauty Queen of Leenane’ in the Rook’s Tower in Newcastle tomorrow, Wednesday, May 10, and Thursday, May 11, at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are available from the school.

ENTERPRISE

Well done to Sadhbh Durston in first year who represente­d the school in Croke Park last Wednesday, May 3, in the National Student Enterprise Awards final with her company ‘Yum Yum’. Further congratula­tions to Aoife Lynskey McWatt, Niamh Dillon, Amy Lynce and Aurora Fawsitt, who represente­d the school in the PDST ‘Get Up and Go’ national finals on Tuesday with their mini company ‘Ogham from Home’. They were in the last 150 students out of 600 who entered.

ATHLETICS

Well done to all members of the school community who competed in the first day of the East Leinster track and field events in Santry last Tuesday. Particular congratula­tions to Laoise Cullen and Eve Leacy, who were placed first in their respective events and who now qualify for the Leinster competitio­n. Troy Scully came second in the Steeplecha­se and also qualifies for the Leinster competitio­n.

NEWTOWN 2050

Well done to the following fifth year students who are involved in the Newtown 2050 Project: Alex Synnott, Luke Power, Amy Kava- nagh, Shauna Hamilton Byrne and Sam Hickey. This project aims to plan for the future developmen­t of the village.

DEBATING SUCCESS

Congratula­tions to Hyrum Scott, Lucy Shortt and Sophie Heaton, with substitute Alex Brady, won the semi-final of the Wicklow Co. Co Environmen­tal Debate on Tuesday last, May 2, against Blessingto­n. The motion they opposed was ‘’It is through enforcemen­t of the litter laws rather than educationa­l campaigns that we can rid the country of littering offences.’ They will be taking part in the final against Carnew on May 23.

WELL DONE

Well done to Dale and Bobby Brady in second year who raised almost €200 for the recent sponsored cycle. The boys set up a stop near Ballinasto­e Wood where they invited people to stop and take pictures of their pet lambs. As a result of their fundraisin­g activity, the boys featured on RTÉ Radio one last Friday.

GERMAN EXCHANGE

A group of our TY students departed for Wurzburg today, Wednesday, to enjoy a unique cultural experience of German life. Students will spend time with their German counterpar­ts, attending school and also visiting Wurzburg and its surroundin­g area on this social and cultural exchange. This is the return leg of the German Exchange, following the Irish leg of the trip in recent weeks, where the students visited Dublin, Glendal- ough and also enjoyed an evening of bowling.

ACTIVE SCHOOLS WEEK

Last week was Active Schools Week and the PE Department did a great job encouragin­g all students to get more active. The PE Hall was open every morning at 8.30 a.m. for students to play some sport before the school day began; the ‘Girls Get Active’ continues every Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Junior Girls basketball continues every Friday lunchtime for interested students.

PARENTS INFO EVENING

Paula Tunney of Community Awareness of Drugs will host a Parents’ Informatio­n Evening on drugs and alcohol in the school on Wednesday, May 17, at 7.30 p.m.
