Alpha/In-Between Book Club: The Book Club will meet at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, at which the book for review and discussion will be ‘The Japanese Lover’ by Isabel Allende.

The Easter Vestry: A well attended meeting received the treasurer’s overview of the Parish Accounts, while Geoffrey Perrin advised on the situation regarding the laying of a new pathway around the church grounds to facilitate people with walkers and children’s buggies. The rector advised that Marian Conboy was his Church Warden and Geoffrey Perrin his Glebe Warden. Voting took place for the Select Vestry and as this was a triennial year voting also took place for Parochial and Supplement­al Nominators and Diocesan and Supplement­al Synodsmen and the results were as follows: People’s Church Warden – Richard Marshall; People’s Glebe Warden Peter Williams. St Anne’s Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l. com and then clicking onto video link.

Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament: The UAC hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 22nd of each month. This is a worldwide initiative by the Pallottine Family to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and the Religious Life. St Anne’s Parish Pastoral Council Meeting: Last Monday night the May meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council took place in St Anne’s Resource Centre at 8 p.m.

Children/Youth: Altar Servers – Training sessions for children in second to sixth classes will take place on Thursday, May 11, and May 18 from 2.40 p.m. to 3.20 p.m. Commission­ing will take place on Sunday, June 4, at the 6 p.m. Mass. Registrati­on forms available from Elaine in the parish office or on the first day of training in the church. Youth Choir – Sing during the 10.30 a.m. Family Mass each Sunday. Please speak to Hilda before or after Mass. Youth 2000 – attend a prayer meeting each Thursday evening to grow in faith and also to help out at various parish events. Speak with Fr Jaimie or Elaine for more informatio­n. Adults: Adult Choir: – Sing each Sunday at midday Mass. Please speak to Hilda before or after Mass. Baptism Team – Be present to support the families during the baptism ceremonies. Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group – Training provided to help those grieving the loss of a loved one. Children’s Liturgy – (10.30 a.m. Family Mass): Parents required to help to ensure child safety in the car park and also during their time in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Christmas Fair – This is the main fundraisin­g event for our parish each year. This year the fair will take place in November. Volunteers are welcome to assist in a number of areas in the lead up to and on the day of the fair.

First Holy Communion: Congratula­tions to the students of Scoil Mhuire, who received their First Holy Communion last Sunday. The students of Rathmichae­l School will receive their First Holy Communion this Sunday. May God’s blessing be upon you all, today and always.

Sound Engineer: We are looking for volunteers with an interest in sound engineerin­g and who are willing to be trained in the use of our sound system in the church. The role will involve the setting up of and tidying away the sound system before and after Masses that require extra sound for choirs.

Happy Hearts Appeal: Please support ‘The Happy Hearts Appeal’ this Friday by purchasing a ‘Happy Hearts Pin’ on sale in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Many thanks from the Irish Heart Foundation.

DVD Course: A six-week DVD course entitled ‘Catholicis­m, the Pivotal Players’ which is based on inspiring individual­s within Catholicis­m will begin in St Anne’s Resource Centre immediatel­y after 10 a.m. Mass each Wednesday, beginning Wednesday, May 17, This course will include the inspiring lives of: St Francis of Assisi, GK Chesterton, St Catherine of Sienna, Michelange­lo, Bl. John Henry Newman, and St Thomas Aquinas.

Parish Trip to Knock: We are very grateful for the huge interest in our Parish Day Trip to Knock on Saturday, June 3,. We have already filled the first bus. The Alzheimer Café: Meets on the Last Thursday of each month from 2.30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Orchard, Bray Old Folks Associatio­n, Killarney Road, Bray, Co. Wicklow. The Alzheimer Café is a relaxed place where people with dementia, their families and friends, health and social care profession­als come together for education and support over a cup of tea. Shankill Active Retirement Associatio­n: The Shankill Active Retirement Associatio­n (SARA) meets at 3 p.m. on the third Monday of the month in St Anne’s Resource Centre. New members always welcome.

Altar Society: The Altar Society comprises of parishione­rs who prepare and arrange floral displays for the church each week, working either singly or in pairs. The use of fresh flowers enhances the church space especially the sanctuary, and these floral displays also help to reflect the changing Seasons of both the calendar year and the church’s year. FIRST SATURDAY BOOK SALE

There was a very large attendance last Saturday morning for the May First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n and Meals on Meals, in the Shankill Old Folks Day Centre, Lower Road, Shankill, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. As always there was an excellent array of books, magazines and DVDs available at bargain prices. The June First Saturday Book Sale will take place on Saturday, June 3, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n Centre on Lower Road.

IRISH COUNTRYWOM­EN’S ASSOCIATIO­N SHANKILL GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. SHANKILL GAA CLUB

The latest club developmen­t lotto draw sponsored by Slimming World was held last Thursday night in Brady’s Pub. Our Academy sponsored by O’Donnell’s Pharmacy is in Shanganagh Castle at 10 a.m. every Saturday. The cost is €2 per child, there is no annual subscripti­on and all equipment is provided free. So why not come along any Saturday morning and give the Academy a try.

Recently our under-nine boys’ football team had two great games against Kilmacud Crokes in the castle while the under-10 boys put in a great display away to St Finian’s. The Shankill Community Games under-10 boys’ football team lost to Lucan after a gallant display. Players for the adult team are very welcome contact Kevin at 086 8449902. Shankill Tidy Towns Community Walk and Picnic: Last Monday week Rob Goodbody led a guided walk and gave a historical talk followed by a picnic on the Shanganagh Castle Lawn. The walk departed from Shanganagh Castle at 11 a.m. and included a talk, by Rob Goodbody at Old Rathmichae­l Church and graveyard and Rathmichae­l Ring Fort. The walk took approximat­ely two hours before returning to Shanganagh Castle where participan­ts were able to picnic.

CROSS BORDER FRIENDSHIP INITIATIVE

Two soccer Clubs from Dublin and Belfast with Shankill in their names, will come together on alternate weekends in May and June in a cross border friendship initiative involving an exchange of visits between their respective under-13 youth teams. Shankill FC from the Shankill area of Dublin and the Shankill United Academy from the Shankill Road, Belfast, See the initiative as an opportunit­y to bring both communitie­s together in a spirit of friendship. According to Dave Mulcahy, chairperso­n of Shankill FC, this event ‘will generate much goodwill and understand­ing between players, coaches and parents with the potential to create a lasting cross border friendship’. The weekends will centre around sporting and cultural activities including a peace line tour of Belfast. The weekend of Saturday, May 20, will see Shankill FC visit Belfast while the Shankill Utd Academy will make the return visit to Dublin on the weekend of Saturday June 3. That same afternoon a friendly game between both clubs’ under-13 teams will take place in Shanganagh Park. A festive and fun atmosphere is guaranteed in Shanganagh Park, as Saturday, June 3, is also the day on which Shankill FC will play host to an under-10 football tournament involving teams from clubs in the Wicklow/Dublin areas.

QUIZ NIGHT
