Donation for hospice from gala event

-

A cheque for €84,100 was presented to the Wicklow Hospice Foundation on behalf of the 32 Elected members of Wicklow County Council by the Gala Fundraising Event Committee. The fundraising project was the brainchild of Wicklow County Councillors who agreed to contribute €10,000 from each of five municipal districts of Bray, Arklow, Wicklow, Greystones and Baltinglass.

The balance was raised by way of proceeds from the recent gala event auction and ticket sales along with a raffle and voluntary contribution.

The committee would like to express their sincere appreciation to everyone who supported the event and to all those people who made a contribution and could not attend on the night. Local representatives from the district recently presented the cheque to Sinead Tarmey, Evanne Cahill and Dr Brendan Cuddihy from Wicklow Hospice.

There was a major boost for the hospice recently with the announcement that the government would provide €1 million towards the fund to push the project over the line. Health Minister Simon Harris made the announcement at the gala event in the Parkview in Newtown last month. Work on the hospice is expected to start at Magheramore this year, with patients to be treated at the 15-bed facility within two years.
