Extra litter pickers hired for summer months

-

OVER THE past number of years Bray Municipal District have introduced smart solar-compactor bins on Bray Seafront, members heard at last Tuesday’s district meeting.

Currently there are 28 of these bins located on, or in, the vicinity of the seafront.

The bins contain an inbuilt compactor and have a telemetry system which relays their capacity status.

They use solar power, compact rubbish during the course of the day, and have three times the capacity of a normal bin.

They are emptied on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Additional bins have, on oc- casion, been installed on the seafront for the summer season.

As part of an old bin replacement programme, Bray Municipal District are installing a further batch of smart bins around the town, bringing the total to 48.

The council and Bray Tourism are arranging to have litter pickers start this week, in an effort to keep tidy. This will have an extra cost as it is two full months earlier than previous years.

They will work at weekends until June, then full time until the end of August. The litter pickers supplement the work of the district staff who will continue to work on the seafront for the busy summer season.
