Scoil Mhuire marks its 40th anniversary

SCOIL Mhuire in Shankill celebrated 40 years of education recently with an exhibition of photographs and artifacts from the school.

The anniversary was a very special event at the school.

Staff, pupils, past pupils and family members all gathered to enjoy the exhibition showing four decades at Scoil Mhuire.

The school began in Shanganagh Park House in 1976 and the school building was built in 1977, so they have been celebrating throughout this academic year.

As well as the exhibition, they celebrated with the launch of their new website, primaryschoolshankill. ie, the unveiling of their banner, and the planting of a grove of oak trees, marking the past, the present and the future.

The tree representing the past was planted by the chairman of the board of management, Fr John O’Connor, while principal Patrica Slevin planted the tree representing the present. Two first class children planted the tree representing the future.

The exhibition at the school showed the development of the school from its foundation to the present day. They invited people to contribute photographs and other items which showed different aspects of school life from past to present.
