BARNDARRIG

-

The under-15 lads hit the road last week with a trip to Bray Emmets. The game was played on a beautiful summer’s evening in ideal playing conditions.

The lads took control mid way through the first half with the O’Shea brothers, Tom and Joe, leading the way with some excellent fielding and ball distribution.

Full-back Mike Doherty and Daniel Murphy were also on top form. The score board kept ticking over with some excellent free taking by Andy Traynor.

It was a brilliant start to the season with the whole team on the front foot from the off. Kevin Leonard, Darra O Murchú, Michael Ryan, Peter Schmidt and Mark Whelan and Jonathan Ryan never put a foot wrong for the entire game which is encouraging.

The team management wishes Max Richards and Ciarán O Keefe speedy recoveries from injury.

Thank you to all those who supported the girls under-14 team, who held a bake sale in Redcross last Saturday fortnight. All the delicious goodies were hoovered up and the girls were delighted with the success of the sale.

Well done to the Minor footballers, now under-17, who notched up a great win in Hollywood last fortnight versus St Kevin’s.

Sean Leonard, Tom Farrell and Malachy Stone were the star men out the field while Wayne Costello pulled off two wonder saves, one from a penalty, to clinch a good victory.

Our adult footballers notched up a good win in Ballinacor two weeks ago in a match that went right to the wire.

Ballinacor got off to a flying start with a strong wind but our lads rallied in the second half to sneak the win on a 12 points to 11 scoreline. Jamie Roe made some spectacular saves to keep Barndarrig in the match.

On Saturday the lads notched up another strong win versus An Tochar, and it was great to see so many people up at the pitch supporting the team in such dreadful weather.

Martin and the lads really appreciate the support.

Well done to all our under-7s and 9s who played some great football at the go games in Avondale last Friday fortnight.

There was some excellent skills on display, with Fionán Doyle putting on an exhibition in the backs and Ronan Wynn giving a powerhouse performance, winning ball and scoring from every angle.

The two lads were excellent but were backed up by a really strong under-7 team performance, especially from some of our younger girls like Niamh Nolan.

The under-9s were also unstoppable in both of their matches. Colclough Byrne, Jack Nolan and Daniel Jones got some great scores while the others worked hard to win ball and set the lads up. Well done to Cathy, Ian and Una. The improvement in skills is so evident, all thanks to their hard work every Wednesday.

Juvenile training takes place every Wednesday in Kilmacurra and all aged five and upwards are welcome to attend, no experience necessary.

Our hurlers had a good win against Kilmacanogue in their first game last Wednesday. Walshie was imperious at full-back and Roger Belton got stuck in even though he was just off the plane from Australia!
