Ashford-Glenealy area scoop Mark Collier Trophy

THE heavens smiled in Glenealy as the founders of the Community Games (over 40 years ago), the late Mark Collier, Jay and Frances Byrne were fondly remembered at the county talent final.

Mark’s wife, Pat and family have donated the overall cup, ‘The Mark Collier Perpetual Trophy for Talent’ in his memory, the cup is awarded to the overall winners.

Jay and Francis Byrne have been represente­d over the years through daughter Maureen and now their grandchild­ren are carrying Jay’s legacy in music and song.

Pat Casey, the main sponsor, arrived with a clean face as he had earlier been wet sponged at the fun day at Ashford Church Centenary.

Pat, his wife Sonia, and Pat Collier along with a very large enthusiast­ic audience, enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of music song and dance.

This is the first year that Ashford Glenealy Area have hosted the county talent final, a huge effort was put in to organise such a large event.

Special mention goes to Lizzy McElhinney and her team of helpers, Wicklow County Board, judges, Mark McElhinney – area photograph­er, parents , volunteers and most especially the children.

The winners were as follows: Under-12 Solo Recitation - 1st: Senan O’Donovan, BBKR; 2nd: Johnnie Harkin, Ashford-Glenealy; 3rd: Nathan Reynolds, BBKR.

Under-16 Solo Recitation - 1st: Sean Treacy, Ashford-Glenealy; 2nd: Nicole O’Donovan, BBKR; Under-12 Solo Singing - Joshua Reynolds, BBKR; 2nd: Ella Healy Arklow; David Wright, Westside; 4th: Juliette Ni Chonail, Aughrim-Annacurra.

Under-12 Solo Singing - Roisin Vigors, Arklow; 2nd: Grace Donoghue, BBKR; Louis Connell Aughrim-Annacurra; Fionn Vigors, Arklow.

Under-16 Solo Music - 1st: John Mc Elhinney, Ashford-Glenealy.

Under-12 Solo Music - Cody Grove, Ashford-Glenealy; Lorcan Byrne, Ashford-Glenealy; 3rd: Grace Keogh, Lakeside.

Under-16 Solo Dance - 1st: Jade Shannon, Aughrim-Annacurra.

Under-12 Solo Dance - 1st: Aoife Ni Murchu, BBKR; 2nd: Niamh Keogh, Lakeside.

Under-16 Group Music - 1st: Lorcan Byrne; Grace Henkel, Fiachra Little, Mary Mc Elhinney, Ronan Mc Elhinney, Kelly O’Neill, Ashford-Glenealy.

Under-12 Group Modern Dance - 1st: Laura Fisher, Isabelle Gray, Rachel Ann Harrop Brady, Evie Lowe, Alexandre Rose Moody, Sadhbh Morgan, Roundwood; 2nd: Aimee Gail Byrne ,Jade Connoly BBKR; 3rd: Grace Donoghue, Rionach Fleming, Ana Morrisey, Slone Rangitaawa,BBKR.

Under-12 Group Singing - 1st: Fionn Vigors, Roisin Vigors, Arklow; 2nd: Tara Bennett, Tom Byrne, Haley Connolly Driver, Kayleigh Doyle, Sorcha O’Neill Ashford-Glenealy; 3rd: Bobby Fanning, Shane O’Brien, Alex O’Dowd, Ashford-Glenealy; 4th: Rachel Delahunt, Ciara O’Neill BBKR.

The Mark Collier Perpetual Trophy was for overall winner was presented to Ashford-Glenealy Area.

The gold medal winner(s) in each event will go forward to represent Wicklow at the national finals at the National Sports Campus in Dublin from August 18 to 20.
