THE LIFE OF A GAA LEGEND

-

THE life and times of Wicklow’s most decorated hurler is recorded for all time, following the launch of a new biography.

‘Eamon Murray: My Journey Through Life’ was launched at Fitzgerald’s, Avoca, on Saturday.

Penned by Wicklow People Sports Editor Brendan Lawrence, the book examines the life of GAA hero Eamon, focussing particulary on his sporting achievements. Eamon played in 13 All-Ireland finals at junior and intermediate level both at home and in London with Brothers Pearse. He also has countless league, county championship and tournament successes to his credit and has achieved many accolades during his lifetime, from being named on the Team of the Millenium in Wicklow and the Best Ever London Team, to being inducted into the Wicklow Hall of Fame.

Special guests on Saturday were Jimmy Dunne, who performed the launch, Jackie Napier, Pat Mitchell and Pat Fitzgerald. Sean Warde, Avoca GAA chairman, acted as MC.

Author Brendan Lawrence said that it was a pleasure to work with Eamon and his wife Jean on the project.

‘I was delighted and frightened to be asked to play a role in writing Eamon Murray’s life story. Over the course of almost two years I formed a close friendship with Eamon and learning what I have about Eamon has only strengthened by respect for a man who is much more than just a hurling legend in Wicklow and London. It was an absolute pleasure working with Eamon and Jean, tapping in to the Wicklow GAA expertise of Jackie Napier, and working with Brian Carthy of Sliabh Ban Productions, who published the book. I hope it does justice to a man who has served the GAA on and off the field for over 70 years.’

Eamon said that he is delight- ed with how the book turned out and that he is glad that he got to pay tribute to many people who have had a positive impact in his life. My Journey Through Life is currently on sale in The Wicklow People offices; Bridge Street Books and from Eamon Murray, Jackie Napier and Brendan Lawrence.
