ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

St Patrick’s Chapel, Loughlinst­own: The celebratio­n of the Sunday 9 a.m. Mass has now ceased in the chapel and will not resume till essential maintenanc­e has been completed.

Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangemen­ts. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificat­e should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediatel­y.

Pre-Baptism Meetings: Pre-Baptism Meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month for parents presenting their children for baptism the following month.

Room Hire – St Anne’s Resource Centre: At present we have availabili­ty in the centre for room hire. If you are interested in running your class or course please contact Melissa Tobin at 01 2822777 for further informatio­n. Facilities include Free car park, tea or coffee, Use of whiteboard and projector, Flipchart Stands, three rooms available with capacity for 80 people, 25 people, or 15 people.

Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament: The UAC hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 22nd of each month. This is a worldwide initiative by the Pallottine Family to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and the Religious Life. First Holy Communion: Congratula­tions to the students of Rathmichae­l School, who received their First Holy Communion last Sunday. The students from St Anne’s School will receive their First Holy Communion this Sunday and on the following Sunday. May God’s blessing be upon you all, today and always.

St Vincent de Paul Society: The monthly church gate collection will take place this weekend. Thank you for your support.

Sound Engineer: We are looking for volunteers with an interest in sound engineerin­g and who are willing to be trained in the use of our sound system in the church. The role will involve the setting up of and tidying away the sound system before and after Masses that require extra sound for choirs.

DVD Course: Tonight (Wednesday) a six-week DVD course entitled ‘Catholicis­m, the Pivotal Players’ which is based on inspiring individual­s within Catholicis­m will begin in St Anne’s Resource Centre immediatel­y after 10 a.m. Mass each Wednesday, beginning Wednesday, May 17, This course will include the inspiring lives of: St Francis of Assisi, GK Chesterton, St Catherine of Sienna, Michelange­lo, Bl. John Henry Newman, and St Thomas Aquinas.

Parish Trip to Knock: We are very grateful for the huge interest in our Parish Day Trip to Knock on Saturday, June 3,. We have already filled the first bus. A second bus may be arranged if there is sufficient interest, so please contact the parish office this Friday if you wish to go to Knock. Please make full payment at time of booking. Appeal For Adorers. Did you know that our Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel is open Monday to Friday from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and also from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. At present, we are appealing for people to ‘watch one hour’ with the Lord. There will be a book in the Chapel for you to sign in. If there is no one present when you have to leave the Chapel, we ask that you close over the tabernacle doors.

BOOK SALE

The June First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n and Meals on Wheels, will take place on Saturday, June 3, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n Centre, Lower Road, Shankill, so make a point of calling into the book sale that Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the summer. Donations of books, other than school/text books, accepted on the day.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. The library is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The library will be closed this Friday but open on Saturday. HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Last weekend the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and surroundin­g area, held its annual weekend outing which this year was to Limerick City which started on Friday night with a talk in the Limerick Strand Hotel at 9 p.m. by John Elliot on ‘The Historic Developmen­t of Limerick’.

On Saturday morning John Elliot brought members on a guided tour of King’s John Castle starting at 9.30 a.m. and then at 11 a.m. on walk on Medieval Limerick. After lunch members were brought on a guided walk around Georgian Limerick by Judith Hill. On Sunday members visited Carriggunn­ell Castle before returning home.

Events coming up for members of the society are tonight’s (Wednesday) 8 p.m. meeting of the Dun Laoghaire Borough Historical Society in the Royal Marine Hotel, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin, at which Philip Lecane will present his lecture ‘Beneath a Turkish Sky – The Royal Dublin Fusiliers and the assault on Gallipoli’ – entrance €3; to tomorrow (Thursday) nights 8 p.m. meeting of the Bray Cualann Historical Society in the Royal Hotel, Main Street, Bray, Co. ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. SHANKILL GAA CLUB

Last Thursday night the club’s weekly developmen­t lotto draw was held. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5. Our Academy is in Shanganagh Castle at 10 a.m. every Saturday. The cost is €2 per child, there is no annual subscripti­on and all equipment is provided free. So why not come along any Saturday morning and give the Academy a try. O’Donnell’s Pharmacy is the sponsor for our summer Camp this year which is from Monday, July 3, to Friday July7th. Action recently saw our under-nine hurling teams have two great games against Westmansto­wn Gaels while the under-10 hurling team had a cracking match against Naomh Olaf. Under-13 girls’ football team had a brilliant game away to St Mary’s in Saggart. Adult men’s football team went down to Naomh Olaf in the O’Broin cup.

FOOTPATH INSTALLATI­ON

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has indicated that request to install a footpath in the green area between Foxes Grove and Easton Wood Green is outside the scope of current plans for the area but will be included for considerat­ion in the context of next year’s work programme.
