PLAQUE ERECTED IN HONOUR OF THE LATE CLLR MURPHY
THE official opening of the Boardwalk along the Dargle took place last Saturday in Bray.
A plaque was unveiled in honour of the late Cllr Jane Murphy, who died last December. The plaque acknowledges the contribution she made to Bray.
Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council Cllr Pat Fitzgeral opened the facility, in the prescence of Cathaoirleach of Bray Muncipal District, Cllr Steven Matthews.
Ms Murphy was a member of Fine Gael. She served as a former Cathaoirleach in Bray, and she was also a peace commissioner.
Cllr Joe Behan worked with Ms Murphy during her tenure as a local representative. He spoke very fondly of her last Saturday morning during the ceremony.
‘While Jane is no longer with us, it was fantastic to see so many members of her family there to share the moment,’ said Cllr Matthews.
Her children Carol, Dave, Antoinette, Jackie, Bob and Sandra, attended the opening.
The guests at the ceremony enjoyed a walk along the Boardwalk before the unveiling of the plaque and then going to the Royal Hotel for refreshments.
Jane served on Wicklow County Council, Bray Urban District Council and Bray VEC. She was laid to rest on Saturday, December 31, at St Mochonog’s Cemtery in Kilmacanogue.
The riverside boardwalk is part of the final element of the River Dargle Flood Scheme.
It connects Castle Street to the People’s Park.
