DAVID BEGLEY ‘LAMP BLACK AND MOONLIGHT’ EXHIBITION From Sunday, May 28, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Courthouse Arts Centre

‘Lamp Black and Moonlight’ is an exhibition of animations, drawings and mono types by Wexford artist and writer David Begley. David is currently working in the mediums of drawing and printmakin­g. Recently his work has been presented at Cinema Club in New York, Animfest Athens in Greece, Dublin and Belfast. He was awarded the Artists Film Award at In Motion, Wales in 2015 and an Artlinks Visual Arts Bursary in 2014. ‘My mono types are part of an ongoing body of work in monochrome following three years of drawing and making animated films,’ said David.

The exhibition will run at the Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely, till Friday, June 30, and is open Wednesdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

BALLET IRELAND – GISELLE – MERMAID ARTS CENTRE Wednesday, May 24, at 8 p.m.

Giselle is a haunting story of love and betrayal. Ballet Ireland’s modern re-telling of this romantic classic is a timeless tale about the redemptive power of love. Betrayed by Albrecht, Giselle dies of a broken heart but her spirit returns to protect and forgive her now repenting lover from death at the hands of the vengeful Wilis. Choreograp­hed by Ludovic Ondiviela, former Royal Ballet dancer and choreograp­her, this production of love that transcends death, will capture the hearts and minds of audiences today. Ballet Ireland returns to Mermaid Arts Centre following its hugely successful production of the Nutcracker (2016) and Coppelia (2015). Tickets are priced at €22; €20 concession and family of four €75. Production starts at 8 p.m.

THE FAR FIELD Wednesday, May 31, 10 a.m. and midday

The Far Field tells the story of Farmer Lonan, who, one summer’s day discovers a magical whistle hidden in a hare’s nest. Suspecting that it belongs to the fairy folk who live at the edge of his farm, Lonán decides that the whistle should be returned to its rightful owners. Join Thomas Johnston (whistles/song), Seán McElwain (guitar/fiddle/whistle), Samantha Harvey (piano), and Emma Fisher (puppeteer) in a show perfect for young audiences. Ceol Connected brings the realm of fairies and folklore to life in this interactiv­e traditiona­l music, puppetry, and storytelli­ng performanc­e. Suitable for children aged 3-7 and their families

BOOK CLUB GREYSTONES LIBRARY

For avid readers, there are three Book Clubs for adults in Greystones Library. The clubs take place on the second Wednesday and the last Wednesday of every month at 11 a.m. and the first Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m.

The Music Circle meets on the first Wednesday of every month in Greystones Library from 7 p.m. to 8.45 p.m. Come along and listen or participat­e by choosing your favourite classical pieces to share with others.

MUSICAL MEDLEY Saturday, July 17, Mermaid Arts Centre

The East Coast Academy of Performing Arts are proud to present ‘A Musical Medley at the Mermaid Arts Centre on Saturday, July 17. The evening of song and dance will feature excerpts from all your favourite movies and musicals from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Hairspray, High School Musical, a Chorus Line and Cinderella. The event features students aged four to 12 from ECAPs Greystones branch.

BEATYARD FESTIVAL LAUNCH NIGHT Friday, May 26, The Harbour Bar, Bray

Bodytonic Music presents its monthly label club night at the Harbour with a special launch night for this year’s Beatyard Festival. Bodytonic are fast approachin­g the time when they set sail for the sunny shores of Dun Laoghaire. It’s all hands on deck with plenty of sneaky Beatyard tickets and drinks to be won on the night.
