Cahill leaves it late

A last-gasp strike from substitute Ryan Cahill sent holders Newtown United into the Charlie Bishop Cup final at the expense of Wicklow Town at Finlay Park last Wednesday.

The game looked to be heading for penalties, with the sides tied at 1-1, but the Magpies summoned up one last surge and Cahill fired to the net to set up a final meeting with Shamrock Celtic.

Wicklow Town had managed to get their noses in front early on, but Dessie Waters drew Newtown level, and it was left to Cahill to put his name in lights, with that late, late winner.
