WICKLOW ROVERS

-

Fresh from their DWSL cup success recently the senior ladies kicked off their league campaign with a hard earned 3-2 home win over Terenure.

An understrength Rovers side found themselves 2-0 down at the break but to their credit they battled back in the second half when goals from Niamh O’Brien, Rachel Bolger and Natasha Fitzgerald earned them a 3-2 victory and three points to kick start their league campaign.

On the night Kellie Ryder, Louise Johnson, Rachel Bolger and Saoirse O’Reilly stood out for Rovers.

The under 17’s recorded a good 4-2 win over Greenhills Boys, what made it so impressive was the lads were 2-0 down after fifteen minutes but they roared back with a brace of goals from Luca Rampersaud and singles from Jack Manley and Stuart Cox.

Midweek junior action saw the under 12A’s complete the treble when they captured the league title. Even though they lost 2-1 against neighbours Wicklow Town in Finlay Park their club mates the 11A’s were doing them a favour on the other side of the fence at Whitegates when they held the A’s nearest challengers St Anthonys to a 1-1 draw. This result meant St Anthony’s couldn’t catch the A’s meaning the title was coming to Whitegates. On the night Ross McCrea netted for the 12A’s. Congratulations to Keith, Stephen and the team on their success.

The 11’s took the lead through Brian McCaul in their game against St Anthony’s and even though they had chances to win the game Anthony’s pegged them back to level the game at 1-1.

The 12B’s moved a step closer to the league title when they defeated Arklow United 1-0 at Ferndale Park, Charlie Phelan scored the all important goal which leaves them requiring a point in their final game to capture the title.

The 13A’s completed a premier league, cup and shield treble when they defeated Newtown Juniors 6-1 on Wednesday to claim the league title with a couple of games to spare. Willoughby Woods scored an excellent hat-trick, Callum Gibney netted twice with Adam Kearns scoring a single. Congratulations to Paul, Tommy and the team on their treble success.

The 14B’s and 14C’s came into direct opposition on Thursday with the B’s coming out on top in a high scoring game. Ben Free fired home six goals for the B team, Harry Broxsan nabbed a brace with Scott Bushe, Cathal O’Brien, Lee Hamilton, Reece Doyle and Ryan Kavanagh all hitting one each for the B’s. Adam Shepherd, Donal O’Donoghue and Harrison Boxall all scored for a gallant C team. The under 13 girls recorded an excellent 7-3 away win over Lucan United, Molly Sweeney scored an amazing five goals with Abi Farrell and Aoife Caffrey notching one a piece.

Weekend action saw the 11A’s hold Aughrim Rangers to a scoreless draw on Friday in the under 12 premier league, it was a tight tussle with nothing separating the sides.

On Saturday the 12B’s captured the league title when they comprehensively beat Greystones 8-0, Charlie Phelan nabbed three, Mikey Nolan got two with singles from Peter Dunne, Ryan McConnell and Cian Leonard. Congratulations to Robbie and the team.

The 14B’s defeated Arklow Town 11-0, for the second game running Ben Free hit a double hattrick, Scott Bushe scored three for his hat-trick with Ryan Kavanagh scoring two.

The 14C’s went down 5-1 to Arklow Celtic with Jamie Murphy notching his first goal of the season. The 14A’s defeated the 15A’s 2-1 with Ross Quinn scoring both goals, Paul Marah scored for the 15’s. Congratulations to Paul O’Brien and the under 15B’s who captured the division 3 title after defeating Avonmore 7-5, Nathan Sullivan fired home an excellent five goals with Thomas O’Neill and Michael Ryan scoring one each.
