THREE CASTLES

Three Castles rowers from Blessingto­n had a very successful weekend at Ghent internatio­nal regatta in Belgium on the 6th and 7th May winning two golds, two silvers and a bronze medal.

Aaron Keogh won the U16 single sculls and Luke Flynn came 7th in the same event. Aaron had six seconds over a Dutch sculler who had led the race up to the half way. Luke and Aaron doubled up and won the U16 double scull race. In the U18 quads race David Gilheany,Tadgh McKnight, Rory Quinn and Oisin Clune put in great performanc­es coming in a very close second on both days to a Belgian national crew. Oisin and Rory won silver in the double sculls on Saturday and bronze on Sunday. David and Tadgh came 6th in the same event. Superb performanc­es from everyone.

Lough Rynn regatta in Leitrim was held on Saturday in very blustery conditions with some events cancelled in the afternoon.

Luke Flynn and Aaron Keogh won the U16 double sculls and their single scull race was cancelled. The three junior quads found the conditions difficult but all put in good performanc­es. The U16 coxed quad of Jonathan Grace,Tiarnan McKnight, Dara O Brian, Caolan Higgins and cox Dylan Wood. The U14 quad of Eoin McLoughlin, Robert Collins, Daniel Devaney, Robert Gilheany and cox Dylan Woods and the girls quad of Blaithin Clune, Amy Devaney, Orla Lyons. Emily Irwin and cox Dylan Woods. In the U18 double sculls Oisin Clune and Rory Quinn had a commanding win with Three Castles second double of Tadgh McKnight and David Gilheany coming third. In the final of the U18 quad Oisin, Tadgh, David and Rory came third finding the fast finish of Carlow and Clonmel too much on the day.
