POSITIVE AFFIRMATIO­N

Congratula­tions to the following girls who received the positive affirmatio­n awards for April/May 2017 – first year: Johanna Murphy and Leah Murphy; second year: Ciara Johnston and Evie Humby; third year: Áine M. Kavanagh and Hannah Gormley; 4thyear: Laura Whitty and Hannah Murphy; fifth year: Isabelle Navarro and Emma Jones and sixth year: Rhianna Owen and Jessica Hobbs. These students were nominated by teachers for making a significan­t contributi­on to school life. Well done to all girls.

CSPE TALK

Thanks to Sergeant Séamus Ryan visited two Emerald and two Sapphire CSPE classes. Sergeant Ryan is stationed in the Drug Unit in Dun Laoghaire. He gave the girls a great insight into the work of the Garda Síochána. He spoke to the girls about the work of the Drugs Unit, the drugs that are on the streets presently and issues involved with young people and the law. All students really enjoyed the talk and thanks to Sargent Ryan for his time.

RAINBOW DAY

Thanks to all students who dressed up and participat­ed in Rainbow Day on Monday, May 15. The school was very colourful and lots of fun was had by all. Over €500 was raised which will go towards the ‘Martin Family’.

‘LEARN TO EARN’

On Monday, May 15, Maebh Litton from Bank of Ireland, Wicklow came to the Transition Year Enterprise class to cover the ‘Learn to Earn’ module. It was a really interestin­g and useful course where the girls learned how to budget their money, online safety with banking and fraud among other topics. Thanks to Maebh from BoI for her time with the Enterprise class.

SPORTS DAY

The annual sports day was held on Tuesday, May 15, and a fabulous day was had by all. Students of all years had huge fun with the 3-legged race, egg and spoon race, sack races and tug-of-war. The day finished with the annual ‘6th year vs teachers’ football match which is always great craic. Congratula­tions to the staff team who beat the sixth years and special congratula­tions to Mr Cronin, who won man of the match. Sorry girls.

GREEN SCHOOLS

The Green School Committee held a ‘Cycle to School Day’ to coincide with Sports Day on Tuesday the 16th. It was a huge success with many students and staff showing their support. A special mention must be made to the Kristianse­n family who cycled a huge distance of 16km. Well done, all.

6TH YEAR GRADUATION

The sixth years are busy preparing for their end of school graduation mass which will be held on Tuesday night in the convent chapel at 7.30 p.m. It promises to be a very special occasion for both students, their families and the school staff.

PRIZEGIVIN­G

Prizegivin­g will take place on the afternoon of Monday, May 22, for all the school.

‘MUCK UP AND PIZZA DAY’

The sixth years had their annual ‘muck up and pizza day’ on Friday, May 19. They were in school late Thursday night and early on the Friday morning decorating Fatima Hall in an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Theme. The hall looked amazing. All the students got to visit and enjoy the fun with bouncy castles etc. The sixth year students then had pizza lunch and the afternoon was spent with their show and presentati­ons.

GEOGRAPHY

Fifth year geography students went to Kippure Estate to do their Leaving Certificat­e Geography Field Study on Friday, May 12. The promised rain held off and it was a great experience for all. The river study is worth 20% of their final Leaving Certificat­e Geography grade. Thanks to Ms Fallon for organising and accompanyi­ng the students.

SUMMER EXAMS

All first, second, TY and fifth year students will be starting their tests the week of May 29. Letters with timetables have been sent home with students. We wish all students the best of luck with their study and preparatio­n for these exams.
