Young thugs on the rampage through Enniskerry village

Residents of one of north Wicklow’s most popular tourist destinatio­ns were last week counting the cost of playing host to the sort of visitors no one wants to see.

Parked cars were damaged and milk bottles snatched and smashed during a dawn rampage by young thugs through Enniskerry.

Gardai had to be called in to restore order after the group of underage hooligans ran amok through the village, a popular spot for thousands of visitors and tourists every weekend at this time of year.

The early morning peace of the village was shattered after the youngsters, who had been camping in nearby Knocksink Wood, descended on the village, stealing milk bottles from local doorsteps, spilling the contents and breaking the bottles.

The youths also inflicted minor dmage on a number of parked cars during the incident, which took place at around 6 a.m.

Gardai restored order, cautioning and taking details from seven of the youths.
